I get internet for free so no complaints (ah, the benefits of working for a large media conglomerate) but I have to say that Road Runner is the best even if you have to pay for it. Tried Dial-up and DSL years ago. Dial-up in general sucks and DSL is ok but next to cable it doesn't compare. The big benefits of cable is that you don;t tie up a phone line and it is instant in opening almost anything.

The only negative is that unless you protect your computer it is a open portal for every mal content in the world since it is on all the time.

As far as the problem goes if the virus or malware has infected your system files then you have to pretty much start over. So your bst bet is to simply reinstall windows and don't bring back any old files unless you're absolutely sure that it within itself is not infested and just watch where you're going on the internet, and do regular virus and malware scans of your computer.

The problem with reinstalling windows is kinvoya's on dial-up and SP2 takes FOREVER to download at less than broadband speed.
I'm not dead; I'm dormant.

One of the big benifits of DSL over cable is that you can do webhosting (the cable companies don't like that since you hog too much of your neighbor's bandwidth  ).

UPDATE!

I used a program called SpyProtector and my computer is doing fine now after I put some questionable stuff in quarantine. You can use the free trial to find hidden stuff that nothing else I used was able to find.

Apparently there is worm or virus or something that mascarades as part of the free AVG spyware protector. I think that was what was causing the problem.

Thanks for the help!
