Ceasing active playing.

Postby The Sociologist » Fri Dec 29, 2006 7:27 pm

I have decided to cease active playing of Cantr, though I shall keep my characters alive and monitor them from time to time. Those that are away from home will make their way back.

The reason is that I can no longer handle the very high death rate, or the increasing immaturity and general silliness of the players. Players who create characters who spout a load of childlike inane nonsense wanting to be stars of their town without any sense of where they are or the history around them. Without even any effort to read history notes even when those have been provided. The recent unceasing stream of the maimed, retarded and generally useless. A total fixation on personal psychology without any sense of a society beyond. The steady withdrawal from the game of those last remaining strategy players who I could count on.

I also cannot tolerate this new "disease". Not that I don't think there should be such diseases, but rather that it has been most poorly implemented. Did nobody stop to think of those forests who have food rationing? For example, we are keeping one of Colonel's charries alive in the hope he may someday return to the game (oddly, that charrie "sleepwalks" now and again). Others will be asleep for some while over just this Christmas period. I have posted an urgent change request under support (not suggestions). I do suggest that it be completed by the end of this weekend. I shall reconsider my position once it is done.

Thanks to all of you who knew my charries for playing along with me.

The Sociologist.

Pretty much the reason why that post was made. However half the people replying are too stupid to understand that. (the other half are very smart. :) )

If this is aimed at me you have to realise that because a player lets a character die that doesn't mean that they are a bad cantr player. Often a death can be what is needed to spice up an area, sometimes it can be the worst possible thing to happen. So please can we not assign people into catagories (Oh, and just so you know, I think that those saying that you should play every character into their eightys and have all your characters be cowards in the face of adversity and do just about nothing dramatic incase the character might have something bad happen to them are being stupid. You have to play the character as the character, not let a character do something uncharacteristic because you are afraid of losing them. Loss is a part of cantr)

Oh yeah... but one moment N-aldwitch, I'm confused about which side you are on, because here you are saying that deaths are bad, but in that conversation you are talking about your 100 odd deaths you've had :?

WOO which I'm very proud of.

I'm not talking about those characters who are naturally brave! Do you understand that?
I'm talking about those who can't be bothered to be cowards. Giving them more emotional ties to the game.

You've gotta do what you've gotta do, eh?

It's a shame to see you slowing down, but it's good you're planning on keeping your chars alive, at least (something I'm still mad I couldn't manage to do).
Strategic players are a rare breed, nowadays, and it's just too bad we're about to lose the best one. Hope it passes over ;)

Well, i have a feeling that a charrie ive been trying to keep alive is going to die, because some polish characters brought the overeating disease to my town, and one of them decided to load up the ONLY smoker in the town with a 12 day smoking project. I now have like 100g of smoked meat and im at 25% hunger...

good luck to the character...
