I'll tell you why they lost, big animals with sharp teeth. You battle a decade with dangerous animals then healing foods are going to be low before a war hits the island, not to mention all the random attacks from anyone wanting a piece of Blackrock arse because they felt brave before the war hitting the island. Mix this with a few Blackrock backstabbers who caused more hatred on the island and all the false stories of atrocities in Kirinn from those running scared to Kwor... you have a recipe for Barbaric Genocide.
And poor Rose....Mine still hoped she made it somewhere, but now i know even if my character still doesn't.
To me it was a sad war that a lot of characters took part in, but who couldn't stand up and say why they were killing Blackrocks or newspawns who never even heard of Blackrocks. I guess the chance of a shiny sword and a loot of goods was too much for some to care who was killed or why they did so.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent and Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect. It means you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.

Alright, This is a verry interesting part of cantr that I think we should all keep verry organised, as to be able for me to understand. Now, let's start with the begginning shall we?who were the main parties, How did the blackrocks and kirrin and them first become to be, then how did they hate each other, how it escilated, and how it ended, and we'll all put it together and then put it in the 'zine.

@BC: I meant that some de Dannon were killed and some were captured. Didn't mean to make it sound like they were all captured and then killed.
@Pie: Here's a thread from last summer that gives the history of TBR, I think.
http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9489
I think if people still have living chars they can talk about the war, itself, from their character's perspective without giving away who they were or are.

Some of those de Dannons were rescued and lived to tell about it.
*smiles* yes there are still a few of us left but the war did take a large toll on us. I watched them kill Jim and was on the point of dieing myself when we were rescued.

One of my newer spawns on Burgeo just found the body of a kidnap victim from Kirinn - one of the original Guardians... together with a number of notes about his experiences.
Seems he watched as General Lloyd was assassinated by TBR.
This means to me that there are still stories to be told In Game and someday these notes may make there way back to K-Isle.
I personally had a Guardian killed in Kirinn and still have a resident of Kwor active on the island and about to turn 60. Someone just asked him yesterday about the Tribe.
I hope I will get a chance to roleplay this a bit longer...

Discussing ancient events here shouldn't change anyones rp at all.
Rosemay did put a mighty curse on the de Dannons that they would never prosper when Jim broke his word and pulled her into his boat after TBR released a prisoner in a gesture of peace. Glad to hear it came true.

*Smiles* well It has not had THAT large of an effect we will survive easy enough and for the record it wasnt Jim that started Dragging RoseMary aboard nor his idea it was mine. He just agreed with my idea and helped.
You would have to backtrack a long ways back before that though to find who betrayed a first promise. But if you want to stay with the account of Rose being drug about. TBR broke that promise first because they did not release a DeDannan THey released a DeDannon Traitor who had turned TBR

The war was the end of one of my favourite characters. and although I have another character who potters around the Kwor end of K-Isle, I haven't been paying much attention (to anything in Cantr) recently.
I'd be really interested if anyone does have any stories about the response to /effects of the war. From what little I've seen, life just seems to continue as normal...
Has the (re)appropriation of the forest has had any major effects for Karnon?

I remember my char was heartbroken when he wasn't aloud to go. (Jules said he needed him there or something. Probably feared someone taking his seat. I remember a lot of discontentment towards him)

Oh and my first dealings with Blackrock were in KDF when Melissa was keeping tabs there. Seemed like nice people to abat.O course he thought the Empire was full of douches.

The Blackrocks were around since the late 500s but mostly stuck in Karnon Forest after 618 or so. By the 900s they were quite powerful in Karnon Forest and by 999 they took it over completely. This was well after the original founder had died and they'd changed from a peaceful wandering tribe to a rather different model.

I had three characters involved, all on the periphery of the event, which lent an interesting perspective.
My first one involved, Balyard Tralston, spawned in Blackrock Forest (sorry, it'll always be that to me), saw how industrious the tribe was, and tried to join, but was completely ignored. A man from Karnon named Kakarat was there, and took him under his wing, so Balyard went back to Karnon with him. Kakarat eventually died and Balyard took over the business, and made a good chunk of wealth selling bows. He made several trips to Blackrock forest for wood, and during those trips was not afraid to tell Nick and Erin what the outside world thought of them, and what he felt the consequences would be. He was always respectful, and Nick and Erin seemed to like him. He came away from the experience realizing that Nick was too paranoid about an attack from within the tribe to worry about image control outside of it. Balyard realized war was inevitable, and threw in his lot with Karnon by reporting back to them the strength and disposition of the Blackrock forces, an action for which he was not even thanked. Balyard spent most of his time travelling, and spent his time in Karnon mostly accumulating great dislike for Karnon. He offered his services several more times for the pending war effort, and was ignored; it is clear in Karnon that the only thing that gets you noticed is joining the military. After the Blackrocks were driven off the island, he regretted his involvement with Karnon and spent his time telling anyone that would listen that the Blackrocks weren't as bad as everyone thought them to be, including Coco of the Kwor Seafarer's guild, who was a captive audience for him when he bought passage on her ship from Kwor to Karnon seaside. He was considering moving back to the forest to help out the Councilors there when his heart gave out.
Duncan Hillspire was involved in two Blackrock events of little significance (to history, but they were important to his life). He and his wife were the first two people to officially respond to the Blackrock's attack on Kirinn. They came into town and found the Wolve's Wrath docked in Kirinn Harbor, and about seven people imprisoned in Kirinn castle. The harbor was unlocked, so they went in and committed everyone on the ship to memory. They left the harbor, and then his wife went back in without him, which caused the Blackrocks to undock (to this day, I don't know what she did to spook them). They used the time to try to break the people out of the castle, but their pick attempt failed, and out of fear of the Blackrocks returning, left to get more help. During their time away, the Kwor navy came and broke the people out of the castle.
The second involvement came when Duncan and his wife wound up in Kwor for limestone, and he was convinced by Andur O'Shan to accompany a small force to go after the Wolve's Wrath. This was the second biggest decision of his life, and if his friend Bernard from East Kol were not there with him, it is doubtful he would have gone. They wound up finding the Wolves Wrath abandoned, (although we didn't know that for sure until we boarded her), and he came away from the experience an able seaman, and also with a great respect and admiration for O'Shan, whom he considered his personal hero. (The biggest decision of his life was when he decided to not accompany O'Shan and the landing force on the main attack, but instead to stay home with his wife and work on their cottage, a decision that left both him and myself as a player with mixed feelings until his heart gave out. If I could do it all over again, he would have gone, as I think being a part of something bigger than himself would have let him grow tremendously as a character, had he survived.)
My third character was Tyson Braddock, the Burgeo map maker, who came across the tribe days before the invasion (his boat passed the invasion fleet on his way back to Kirinn). He got Nick's whole written story and talked to a lot of the Blackrocks. Having been spawned in Kirinn and holding a deep hatred for the town, he was secretly pleased at Nick's admission to slaughtering the town leaders, and departed from the tribe on very good terms. He left a copy of Nick's story in Kirinn, and then set sail for Fu Put, never to be seen again. If they had asked him to help them fight, he probably would have, since he was so filled with hatred for pretty much anything related to K-isle.
As I said, peripheral, but at least for the first two characters, the goings on of the tribe dominated the majority of their lives. East Kol and Duncan were concerned about the Blackrocks for a good deal of time before they were ousted (they should have stayed and fought; they would have won), and Balyard was always troubled by it, both mentally and physically (when they closed the road to Karnon, it destroyed his business). I can't imagine a K-isle without the Blackrocks...

Thanks, this is fascinating, Doug. Exactly the kind of personal perspective from characters that I was hoping people would share.
I haven't written much because I was feeling like a big geek who was the only one interested in talking about events and experiences in the war.
Right now I would just like to say, TBR WAS NOT KICKED OFF THE K-ISLAND! They had started planning years before to move to Fu Put. Right after they first heard about it. All those sloops and dinghys were not built overnight! The boats were already built by the time things started to escalate toward war. Basically, they wanted a new start and an adventure. The timeline was moved up and they left in a hurry because they wanted to avoid fighting. They sincerely hoped that they would be left alone. They also had a very viable defense plan and probably would have won a war in Blackrock Forest.
Erin went to the seaside to supervise the building of the boats and I've always thought that maybe Razer wouldn't have turned on Nick if she had been around. Razer and Erin were very close. They ran the forest together while Nick was off in Kwor Beach. She even named one of the sloops after him (it was going to be a surprise! *sob*)and expected him to captain it even though he refused to join the tribe (there is a plaque in Karnon Forest with his name as Razer Blackrock but he was never a Blackrock). I can't imagine that he would have attacked her. I think the attack on Nick was really motivated by his drop in power and status when Nick returned.
Of course, Nicki was kind of crazy and bloodthirsty and without Erin to hold him back on Fu Put (I cancelled my account due to illness) he got bored and angry and decided to go back and attack the K-Island. At least I think that was his motivation. I wasn't playing then so I'm not sure.
