I thought blocking and attacking were the same skill?

Postby SekoETC » Sun Dec 17, 2006 4:40 pm

1748-0.26: You novicely hurt Jay using a waster, who loses 0 percent strength.

1748-0.26: Jay novicely hurts you using a waster. You lose 0 percent strength. You awkwardly saved 9 percent using your iron shield.

Or does this mean I gained a level in the middle of the attack, and it counts blocking before the attacking? Edit: And yes, it's a case of hitting oneself, so there are no two separate characters, so that you know.

Edit2: The list of skills still says awkward. Is this a bug? A rounding thing?

Perhaps this is something to do with the changes in weapons that were revealed in the discussion board?

Perhaps your character is not strong enough to wield an iron sword? Perhaps you character particulaty suits a waster?

Other wise congrats on levelling.. for who can tell?

Yeah, turned out he's only weaker than average, not much weaker. That might be the thing.

It's not a bug - its because you are attacking yourself

To allow suicide, characters who hit themselves always manage to attack a level of at least novice skill level regardless of their actual fighting skill, strength or tiredness , their defense if they use a shield is at their normal fighting skill

(Their tiredness and strength also have a minimum equivalent to a novice fighting skill as well)

This only applies if you hit yourself

Ermmm...

So let me get this straight.

I have an awkward fighter...

To test my fighting skill I punch myself.

As this is something I would likely do soon after I spawn I do not posess a shield nor see a shield skill. So I would see novicely (or more) but my skill list would show awkwardly?
What would others see?

And if I use a slap which is essentially not skill based, and does not show other people or myself the skill, why do I get a fighting skill in my list??

:?

They would see yet another ****ing idiot who cares more about stats than social aspects. ...How about for once waiting for a situation that actually requires the use of violence rather than smacking yourself like a complete idiot? Hell, how many people in real life know their "fighting skill"? - At least I don't.[/rant]

Because in the real world I would train and make sure I was capable before I started any trouble at all. And my characters do the same in their cantr way.
Besides this isn't the place for your flames... go to general discussion for that.

Is it the case that the fighting skill is also displayed for a newspawn after an attempted drag?

What, strength isn't visible straight off the bat? It only appears after you use it? :?

Sorry my mistake - it is viewable from spawning - but now strength is only visible when looking at your own character - Viewing the strength of others has been turned off
