Nutrition instead of healing food

Postby Arlequin » Mon Dec 11, 2006 9:23 pm

Probably a suggestion for the far far future. :P

Food has basically five nutrititional properties:

Protein
Carbohydrates
Fat
Vitamins
Minerals

Proteins would help people grow stronger and heal physical wounds faster.
Carbohydrates would let them recover from tiredness faster.
Fat would protect them from hunger and bad weather.
Vitamins would protect them from illness.
Minerals let them move faster and protect them from hot weather.

In RL people would die from lack of one of those (besides fat, maybe), but in Cantr it shouldn't be so extreme. Yet it would be a good idea to carry fresh fruit and vegetables for long travels across the sea, and to trade food with other locations. This would replace the healing food for just "good kinds of food you should eat when you are ill/wounded".

There could be still instant healing herbs and medicines.

(And it would add another nice "educational" purpose to Cantr. About keeping a good diet and so...)

I LOVE THIS IDEA, Imagine a army in war, this would introduce rations, better planning and chefs

I do not like the idea. Cantr is supposed to be simple. Changes like this make it more complicated. I found it hard enough to play to begin with nearly a year ago. Games are not made to simulate real life, but that seems what alot of the suggested ideas are aiming at including this one.

What of places that only have meat available for food?

I agree with Delgrad. Yes, i think healing foods have to be modified but this is not the way to do it.

I'm not sure if such sytem is the best, but i definitely would like to see more attributes for different food types.

I wish it could be like this but they would screw it up anyway. Lots of people would die. Cantr is a simplified simulation. IRL you could find edible stuff in almost anywhere, only most of them would not be considered edible unless in dire need. Like worms... And mushrooms, and berries, far more species than they are in Cantr. But here you are limited to what has been programmed. You cannot collect several things at once. You cannot go to the forest thinking "I'll just look around to see if I could find something useful. Ooh, an oddly shaped stone! And what's that? A mushroom! Oh, and a good batch of blueberries, I think I shall start picking them for a while."

I love this idea!! It's such a good idea and you've applied it to Cantr so well!

But yeah I'm against it. (I love it but I'm against it). It would complicate Cantr a little too much..

Nice educational touch, definately.

But you'd have to travel far and wide for these resources, while in real life you could just plant what you needed at your location.
