Rest. Divide the amount of food your character ate, by the amount of food it normally eats of it in a day.
That's how many days rest you need.

Oh that's a relieve! Only over 40 days of rest for my character to become healthy again. The amount of food lost by the freak incident of faintness can be overcome by eating the same amount of food while resting. Cool!

No, I'm being serious about the fix.

Unless the staff member was Jos, Jur, or Chris, I would be cautious about trusting that. This addition to the game is one of Jos' projects, and he has been very closemouthed about it.

The whole point, presumably, is that it is a new disease, and that people shouldn't know how to treat it without experimentation, and any action taken by chars influenced by discussion here would be a CRB.
Of course, it's yet one more thing to piss players off and cause them to quit.

One of mine has relapsed to eating 5 days of food. She's alone, so she couldn't have been reinfected. I'm not overly bothered by it, as she's one of the 8 characters I'm killing off. She hasn't be able to rest one day, much less 5.
Reality was never my strong point.

Ah, interesting. I recall a suggestion chars should have more to worry about. Chars! So players might as well stop discussing this overeating, apparently it is no bug.

Could this be why the game has become intollerably slow at times?

Guys, can you not create doctor chars, or statisticians chars, and collect data in game to figure out what works and what doesn't and how long the disease lasts etc. etc.? Why figure it out as a puzzle on the forum? Then I could just as well give all details right away. It's not the idea that we create puzzles for the players, it's rather about roleplaying that chars don't know what happens and try different solutions and you get different medical traditions etc. etc.

No. The game is definitely intolerable slow these days, but it's entirely unrelated to this.
