Sabring, and the violence system

Postby west » Thu Feb 12, 2004 6:09 am

Seems like since the violence system change, 80% of my sabre blows to people, shielded or not, have missed completely, regardless of character.

Does everyone have this problem?

And if it's just me, WHY?!

I'm not sure.

Stay still a second.

Someone else did that part and I don't want to look at it and understand exactly what was done.

But they will see this.

I'm going to have to agree with west, and the percentage of time my iron shields have been "ineffective" is frightening - wonder why I even bother holding one....

Recent scenario: Character with a iron shield was attacked 5 times with a sabre - 2 direct hits, 2 misses, 1 time my shield saved 7%. Poor thing is dead now, sucks as she was an older character.

I have a feeling something similar to this happened with Maynard's death.

It doesn't seem terribly fair to either the attacker or the defender, frankly.

I've noticed that with the "heavy" weapons that I normally make it past the iron shield probly 80% of the time but only so about 15-20%, any smaller weapon normally only does damage about 20% of the time. I find that at times things don't go like that, and yes, Lass, that's how Maynard bought his, seems to happen when multiple chars attack someone.

My crossbow hasn't been effective once that I can think of since the new system started. When Maily missed Maynard, I (and she) started sweating for about half an hour. One of my chars with a sabre has had better luck, but has still missed about half of the time. None of my other chars have used violence since the new system, but it seems like about 80% of violence my chars have witnessed overall since then resulted in someone complaining about missing.

Perhaps "random" in the new violence system means the same thing "random" meant regarding the likelihood that racoons would attack and multiply their numbers? *coughs* "Sorry Cosmo.

one of my characters has a hunting bow...and its a very weak weapon but the amount of times it has hit people lately seems to have gone up...maybe just luck?

I think there was over-compensation on the part of the weapons balance

Those with weaker weapons hit most of the time, whereas the strongest weapons hit almost never.

I think they should be tweaked to be a little more effective; after all, they did take a lot to build and that expense should be justified by the effectiveness of the weapons.

funny, one of my "crazy" guys gave alot of people real hell with a hunting bow and then with a warbow and only a wooden shield not long ago...took a small army to bring him down, and most of them had sabres.

Exactly. Weaker weapons are now more effective than good ones. That just ain't right.

Though if we'da known that in Shai we might have been able to kill Katie Hoggs. You live and learn, I guess.

Most of my characters are pretty damned awesoem with their weapons, including sabres and hutning bows...but shield seems to really suck.

Is practice now a factor in hitting people? Most of my chars. dont' often use their weapons, but when they do, they miss usually.
