Yeah, that's fun. :) It doesn't work in every town, (I know it's hard to believe, but there are a few out there where the leaders are actually awake enough to do their jobs) but I got some very nice tools that way. It helps that they're usually old or crumbling by the time the person drops, so of course you're doing your civic duty by picking them up and putting them in repairs...and then leaving them there until everyone forgets about them. :D

A variation on putting items into repairs is looking for tools in repair where the owner is no longer in the area. Then when someone asks why you picked it up "Oh, I fixed it!" If they press "I fixed it for so-and-so, I'm waiting for them to come back"

People have very short attention spans

Yeah, I do that as much as I can. You can get some really great things that way. Sometimes you don't even need to pretend your going to give it to someone. Just discretly fix stuff and keep it. I find that very few people question you if you're discreet.

I once got an iron shield on loan for a mission from some soldier in an established army. Just kept it. I never mentioned it, he never asked.

Like one guy who was thrown in prison for being gay, almost killed, then was rude to elders and almost killed again, inbetween all these imprisonments and almost-deaths and more, my character was just repairing this gay character's composite recurve bow and iron shield, and kept them, and the other character got REALLY cut when he couldn't find the items and started yelling- and you guessed it- was almost killed again and thrown in jail!! :P

Nice!

They threw him in jail for being gay?

Was it really just for 'being gay' or was he one of those sad creepy types who start emoting sexual stuff at other chars out of the blue without even waiting for them to wake up and respond?

He turned gay due to natural causes. There were no women in the area, and there was corruption around because when there was, she'd be dragged into some dark, evil looming building and never seen again- assumedly raped. He came on to people.

Just the other day my character saw him alive. Quite surprising- not many people made it out of that fortress alive.

Whoa! What town is this? Guess you can't post it here in case its still going on, but wow, with the way 99% of Cantrians are spawned Lawful Good it's hard to believe something like that could go on for very long...

I'm torn between being horrified and wanting to applaud at the thought of a successful evil leader. (One of these days I'm going to be able to make a couple of newspawns and then I swear one of them will build a utopia for evil chars...all newspawns and travellers will be captured and either brought over to the Dark Side or killed. It will be glorious.)

Hehe, the town is run by a try-hard 90+ year old wanna-be tribe leader, who has slowly killed off all the tribe members or they've left, the other is a stuck-up leader who thinks everyone should respect them.

Funniest part is, they want people to stay in their town, but they have hunting rules of not being allowed to hunt animals that are less than 7. So people either are killed, starve to death, or a combo- are killed for complaining about food/killed for trying to GET food. :P

Gotta love that town. It may be ending soon ;) so I can post where it is. :)

Hmm. The leader might not be as smart as I thought then. Giving out free food is like one of the most basic things you can do to get people to stay in your town. And it's no fun ruling an evil empire if you're the only citizen...

Ack, I have so many ideas for the perfect evil town, I hate not being able to try them out! I've got a whole list of weird character ideas and experiments to try, actually, but it looks like it's going to be a long long time before any of my current ones die and I can try them out...

yeah...

I spawned 5 characters because I was bored and I only had 10 slots used.

After careful deliberation, i have decided that 4 of these 5 will become pirates/thieves/ in general bastards, and the other 1 will die because i actually didnt want to have 15 charries.
