I was told it was good. I haven't watched it myself, as I don't get the channel it comes on. If it's on DVD now, I wouldn't know because I don't keep track of television, anyway. >.< Whenever it's on DVD, I'll definitely try to watch it.. even if it's months between rentals. lol Shame on me for not watching more...

Yeah, Sopranos is very cool as well. Objectively speaking, Sopranos is better, but I just really like things about Roman/Greek times and there are not too many television series or movies of decent quality set in that time.
Any more suggestions on that front are welcome

Then you'll still have a few good seasons in store (or in mail, rather, being Netflix) for Tony and the gang. One of the reasons I liked it is that Stevie Van Zandt, one of the actors, is actually a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and you can often catch allusions to their music in the show.
& Spartacus is indeed a feature length film, though slightly dated.

Rome was very impressive, but I've always been of the opinion that big-budget, american, hollywood stylisings don't fit well with that sort of material.
Troy, for instance, was an exceptionally accomplished film, and unlike others certainly conveyed the scale of the battle, but the slickness of the production didn't corresspond to the nature of the material.
Rome was similarly too slickly produced - it was possibly too nicely done...
Give me Spartacus and the old Argonauts over Troy and Rome any day - those films actually had dirt...

It's anything but Soap Style western. It is a very gritty look at the building of Deadwood in the old west. You have many different factions trying to control the goings on in town and trying to gain the most power before they are anexxed into the US. So you have Sweargen and his whorehouse, Bullock and Star and their store, Tolliver and his whorehouse/gambling parlor, and widow Garret and her gold claim. And in the last season the infamous Heart shows up to try to take everything over. At the same time all of them have to work together from outside threats like other territories that want to take them over as well as they have to form a semblance of government so that the US will anex them as a territory. It is actually a really good study at how a town is started and grows as well as most of the storyline and characters are based off of historical fact.
Just a warning though, the show is extremely violent and has excessive swearing. It is one of the few shows that gets better as it goes. The beginning is a little hard because they throw a lot of characters at you but as you get through the first season it is a roller coaster ride until the end.
