Okay.
What the point of this language then?
Cantr's an RP'ing game with real languages. Leetspeak isn't a language, it just uses different symbols- so its a 'code'.

Like I said, I removed leet from the proposal. It is now just chat/gamespeak - which is a dialect, not a code. Although leet does have many dialect-like qualities, and is not really a code in the traditional sense.

We can has separate leetspeak, sms lang, lolcat, and chat room speak areas, srsly. Really, this would be excessive and would lead to a lot of irrational behavior, but it could lead to monolingual Americans finally being able to play in different language zones and deal with communication issues, and have fun pwn1ng n00bs wh0 c4n7 5p33k 1337. Probably one netspeak area is enough, though. kthxbai

There are a couple of problems I have with implementing chatspeak as a language:
1. It's not a language - it can be spoken in different languages, but I assume the suggestion was for an English chatspeak area (since you couldn't mix different languages in one area). So unless you wanted to create a chatspeak area for each different language, you would be excluding everybody except those who spoke English.
2. Not being a language, it can still be understood by characters who speak a different language, which would make it a bit pointless since there would be no differentiation between a new player in the English zone who's just speaking in chatspeak because they feel like it, and a genuine chatspeak player. Also, if you're going to create an area in which people speak a certain dialect, you might as well make one for people speaking in Scottish accents, lisping accents, or even "deaf" accents?
3. Chatspeak originated from a need to type faster and make messages shorter. So in this sense, it isn't really even a dialect, because unless you're a complete moron you don't actually speak in Chatspeak. This makes it incompatible with Cantr in the sense that messages typed in Cantr are supposed to represent spoken language. So if somebody else doesn't understand what a 1337-speaking person is saying in game, are the supposed to point out that they don't know what "|\|006" means, or that they don't know what "|" means. So in reality it's impossible to "say" things in chatspeak. There are plenty of opportunities in-game to differentiate you character by making them speak differently. If you don't like typing long sentences, then there are plenty of abbreviation styles you can use, such as "Darn! Why'd this 'ave to 'appen to me? It jus' ain't fair!" as long as you don't mind you character being seen as stupid or lazy.
4. It would make Cantr seem to not be a serious game. People who sign up, and existing players, looking to role-play in a realistic situation will definitely be put off if they find out they might meet a character who "speaks" in a recognisable, often annoying format which is unslightly on the screen, and cannot be pronounced for the purposes of RPing.
5. Language areas were inteded to give a wide range of players the opportunity to play Cantr. If anything, the addition of a Chatspeak area would only diminish the attractiveness of the game to most people. It would be seen as a place where the rules don't apply to certain people. And seriously, what kind of constructive activities or actual role playing do you think would go in a place full of people who only signed up because they were too lazy to write in proper sentences? In my opinion it would be a complete waste of the already stretched Cantr staff, and an unneccesary load on the server.
Well, I'm sure you see where I stand on this matter. If anybody wants to come up with some arguments for having Chatspeak in the game, I'd honestly like to hear them, because I really can't see why someone would enjoy typing IM-speak enough to want to play a serious character in such a style.

I agree with you on "chatspeak" and "1337speak", but what is your opinion on lolspeak?
I'm ok with it as long as you don't take it too far.

Yeah, that's why I said that you shouldn't take it too far.
I've seen some people talk sort-of lolspeak, and it was really cool.
But if you "tlk lik diz" then it gets annoying.
More like "Ahm gonna get sum wood nao!"

My mind just rejects this idea. In fact, it rejects it so fast that I can't even make an argument of why. It's just stupid... I usually laugh of people who are proud of not knowing how to right. (
