Wooden Cart
Can someone help me work out the benefits or otherwise of making a wooden cart?
From the wiki, I understand that there is such a thing as walking speed, vehicle speed and boat speed.
Q1: Is (for example) 6 walking speed the same speed as 6 vehicle speed, and the same as 6 boat speed?
I notice for walking:
Walking speed = 10 - (inventory weight)/5000
Say I had a heavy 15000g load. This makes my speed 7, I believe.
And I notice for vehicles:
Vehicle speed = (base speed)*(road factor) - (load / weight effect)
This makes my speed, for a wooden cart on a sand road: (0.07)*(100) - (15000/30000) = 7 - 0.5 = 6.5.
Q2: Am I right in thinking that travelling with a wooden cart is slower than walking?
For a wooden cart, the wiki says:
Total weight: 90000g
Passenger weight: 29820g
Q3: What do these mean in practise? Does this mean that if I have a wooden cart, I can carry 60180 inventory instead of whatever I can carry with just my hands? Or some other figure? Or something else altogether?
Q4: Am I right in thinking that the only benefit to having a wooden cart is to increase your inventory, and that if you carry little, you are actually much worse off with one than without?
Thanks in advance,
psymann

I'm not sure (although I am not notsure), but I think that...
Q1: yes, but I never checked it out.
The total weight is considered to calculate the speed. Then:
For a wooden cart, on a sand road, with one passenger and 15 kg of load (the passenger's full inventory): (0.07)*(100) - (75000/30000) = 7 - 2.5 = 4.5
Q2: Yes, the cart is slower.
Q3: The passenger weight I think it is the free space (load) in the vehicle with one passenger and the lock inside. Thus, 29820 g would be the maximum amount of load you can put into a wooden cart.
Q4: Yes. But the cart can be considered as a mobile container.

Yes they are the same speed regardless of mode of transport . They are stated in map units per day (the Wiki refers to these as pixels)

It depends on the road - if it's an unmade path the wooden cart is slower than walking for the same load - If its a highway the cart will be faster. The small wooden cart does however have a maximum speed cap of 10 units regardless of quality of road.

It means the cart can carry a maximum load of 90000g. As a person weighs 60000g and there is a lock weighing 180g, you can carry an additional 29820g of cargo (including the player's inventory)

No - see my answer to Q2 . This is only the case if road is the most basic, The cart will be faster on better roads. It also comes with a free lock so can be used for storage as well

So the cart was actually slower and smaller than I thought (thanks for the clarification on those numbers), but has the big benefit I'd not realised of having a lock without me needing to go and find any iron... that may make it useful to me again after all since there aren't a lot of highways near me
Thanks both for the info.

Ey! I didn't know that!
I like it, I was about to suggest maximum speeds for the cheaper vehicles.
Which other vehicles has a maximum speed (regardless the road)?

One random comment is that when looking at transportation I could make without iron and rubber, there was very little. Would be nice if there were a few other things for the poor people... maybe a skateboard using wood and stone wheels, or rollerskates made from wood and hide and sinew, or something that maybe wouldn't carry any extra weight but would speed up the rate of my walking a little? I suppose the problem is that without metal, most transportation requires animals, and they currently can't be harnessed for transport, only slaughtered. Oh well, at least I have the chance to make a wooden cart for which I am grateful.

This is part of why wooden carts were added.. to provide some sort of transportation that doesn't need metal.

That is not completely true. All vehicles travelling on current road types have a max speed of 65535, however no current vehicle can travel anywhere near that speed.

Why do you think that other repairs were shortened? Now characters have the time they need to repair vehicles, buildings, and machines!
