I need to get a newspawn in one of the highly bureaucratic regions to become a Hospital Administrator of a Sanatorium... that would be a fun character to play... the police force sends in political prisoners and crazies, heh. Spend all my time convincing "guests" of what they know is true is wrong.

If we have coal, and some complex machinery, steam power wouldn't seem too far of a leap and we could use that to power some electrodes for some good fun for everyone.

Maybe tranquilizers should be introduced into the game.... like mix some shrooms and magnesium or some other resource together to make pills in a mortar and pestles.

The sort of electricity used in electroshock therapy would be better made by a hand-cranked generator or a battery. Either could be made at the Cantr level of technology, though the concept of electricity would probably be too advanced.

New subject, please. As someone with a genuine mental illness, the subject of electro-shock just makes me sick. Have you ever seen someone going through it? It's so painful they have to put a rubber ball in their mouth so they don't chew off and swallow their own tongue from the pain.
Electro shock therapy is along the lines of a lobotomy. The only difference being, they still use it today. Doctors that get a ton of money for doing it to people convince the ill person's family that it's a good idea, and the sick person is easily talked into it by their family, the only source of strength and reasoning they have in the otherwise hellish existence that is their inner mind. They think "what could be worse than what I live with every day?". I'll tell you what could be worse.
Once the papers are signed, it's too late. They're strapped to the board, they have a ball stuffed in their mouth, and they have the sh*t shocked out of them. Literally. The pain is unbelievable. And on top of it all, it's called "therapy" and the doctor gets PAID to do it to them.
Afterwards, often their illness is "better". They complain less of their symptoms. But that is because they complain less about everything. Their brains are permanently damaged, their neurons being overloaded way past what anyone should ever have to endure. They are changed forever into docile and submissive vegetables.
So excuse me very much if I don't appreciate this line of discussion. It is nothing to laugh at.
