Banner exchanges

Postby Jos Elkink » Tue Oct 17, 2006 6:31 pm

Just out of curiosity: anyone here who found Cantr thanks to a banner on another site? I'm wondering whether the banner exchanges we use actually draw in players ...

I've never seen a Cantr banner (and this is not my only online game)

The Cantr banner I've seen is terribly bad quality (pixellated). I noticed that most banners out there are made in Flash nowadays. That allows interactivity too, and the file size will remain low (provided that vector graphics are used). Could you be able to get a flash banner into rotation or do they only accept gif? Since a poor quality banner makes people think the game is done cheap too, and that's not good.

Well...

I might just go and do that
:P

It's an old banner, and banners have moved on a tad. I wouldn't go for flash. Simple and clear are the most important things...

We've had quite a few creative ideas in the past, which shouldn't be lost:

or, I guess they're mostly in the Wiki now:

I can't seem to find the ones Colonel made, though. Most of these are by Snakebyte and |william|

Flash doesn't necessarily mean complicated, you can use it for non-interactive animation as well. All I was asking was would such a banner be accepted on the sites where it's supposed to be put. If we could compose a list of short entries from the I AM topic and have the program pick up 3 to 5 random ones, make them appear and disappear, then display the text www.cantr.net - wait a few seconds, then replay with a different set of quotes. You cannot do something like that with gif.

I found the topic when I compiled the wiki page, but the hosting site doesn't have them anymore. I asked if somoene could get in contact with colonel and see if he still has them - but I haven't heard anything...
