Match speed with vessel.

Postby Crosshair » Sun Oct 15, 2006 8:31 am

Like the Equal button on a road, but next to a ship on the location tab when sailing. You'd have to guess at the direction they're going in, but with the new arrows, its easier.

Like it. Then similar size ships can travell along each other.

You see a hugh fleet of rakers travelling the high seas.

Match speed AND direction. It is also very important, is't it?

I don't like this suggestion - it's not the same issue as on roads where there was little infomation about relative speeds and direction is limited to two options.

All the visual clues are now available to do this in game whilst sailing , I don't think it should be automated as requested here . I appreciate that the visual cues don't help the people with accessiblity issues but that can be addressed in other ways.

I'm for the automation.

I don't really understand why not? It's quite a hassle to try to do it visually, no?

I'm also for the automation. It makes travelling between islands easier as you can just follow someone else without worrying that if you don't log on for a day you will lose them and starve

This could certainly make life easier for pirates.

At least on land, you get a chance to throw them off at each town you come to. On the sea there would be no such opportunities.

Actually  That's where you're wrong.

People would set it to automatic in their faster vessels and leave their game for a few days expecting to catch up with them.

Some clever sailing and you can crash them into land, stopping the automation, and sail off scott free ;)

I don't like this...sailing isn't about copying someone. This would suck if you are a pirate and being chase and if you are a normal person being chased by pirates. Doing it by your eyes is still more realistic. And in real life, some things are a hassle!

Yeah... at first glance this seemed like a good idea. Fleets of ships could sail together without much effort.

However I think it would quickly turn into a means for pirates, as well as pirate-hunters to chase down their prey. I think there should be an element of luck and/or skill involved in either, not a simple automated button.

Yeah, don't like it..

Matching speed without automation is very difficult, why not allow it? I don't really understand the objections.

Of course, you would not totally follow the vessel automatically. You just match speed (only speed) at the moment you press the button. If the other vessel then changes course or speed, you still need to react yourself.
