Music can be prayer and worship.
Work can be prayer and worship.
Who says Cantrian religions must look like common real life ones?
How about a blacksmith God, where hard work at the smelter is considered prayer?
Agreed.
To pray, in a general sense, can be done anyway. But to "pray in a dedicated way", that is the kind of praying I refered to, should be performed while you are not doing anything else. Do you know buddhist singing? they don't do it while driving to work. There are lots of examples of dedicated praying activities that consumes all the time of the prayer and produces nothing.
Of course, I can say "-praying to the gods, whispering strange mantras while benting down repeatedly until his head touches the ground-".
Even I can attack myself as a whiping.
But when someone looks at my char, he/she will see that he is doing nothing (or working, but that couldn't be a dedicated praying). Maybe I could repeat the praying sentence each hour while not doing anything else, but it would be easier if I can left my char in a praying project and save my writing time and the reading time of the other player.
I like RP, and I now RP should be enough to perform anything. Then... why we have playing music (instantly*) projects? (sarcastic but not offending: "oh, please, remove the music projects, I want that musicians just RP it, and stop bothering me with projects I don't like to see in the game"
(*) Music projects don't consume time, are instanly, but it should be timetaking, and no one can say the opposite... or someone here plays his/her guitar whilst driving to work?
This is a game

IMHO only things that actually have a physical effect on the game world should be a project, everything else should be RPed.
Well, then make possible to burn things in the altar (that is a physical effect)...
One of my chars is thinking right now:
It would be GREAT to see the bodies of our enemies burning in the altar (that's a project) whilst we are dancing around and singing for the glory of our gods (that's RPed)

You will find strong opposition about destroying notes. I've tryied, lots of people have tryied, but it seems is impossible to overcome the resistance against the possibility of losing the Cantr's written history -shrugs- That's the reason for some of my chars having stupid unmodifiable notes in their inventories.
But that is another story.
Just burn things in the altar!

WEll it seems to me that every important note out there has like a billion copies. They spread like a virus...somebody picks up copies in one town, drops dead in another, and from there people make copies of the copies and repeat the process. For instance there are probably more copies of things like the Treefeather map, Hobbes encyclopedia and the Rangers Tale than there are actual chars on that island.
And even if some dictator was bent on 'destroying history' or whatever, it would only make people more likely to make copies of important things and spread them around, and it's not like anyone could do anything about as long as notes are weightless and invisible.

Maybe altars could be adorned with whatever you use to represent your god?
so when you look at it it will say something like "an altar adorned with ___"
if there is nothing there it will merely say "an altar" (but in better wording, im just being lazy here)
(and yes i know this isnt the sugestion forum)
as for religions, I am having mixed results trying to form a religion. The 'gods' of in game randomness did help me alot though, those pesky wild boars seemed to do my bidding, and attacked the same person like 5 times within 3 hours of her attacking my religion.
it was odd to say the least... very odd, and very lucky, it actually gave me hard evidence that my god exists.
however, none of my followers actually witnessed this and most people who read my notes laugh and drop them, and the person who was attacked believes it was pure coincidence. But if you look hard enough, you can find 'proof' of divine power, just like my preacher had.
but now its time for bed cuz i got class in the morning, and unless you meet my charrie im not telling you anything more about this religion.

I really dont see why there needs to be an "action" for religion to be RPed correctly. Religion is faith based, not action based and therefore something to be RPed.
Take a look at modern religion. How many people believe in "God" or whatever else their "religion" calls it? How many have seen or otherwise witnessed an action to make them believe? It is all based on a faith that the person telling you whatever they tell you knows what they are talking about.

The origins of RL religions were always in "uneducated environments". I mean, all the ancient religions are there even before the maths. And the most recent ones (for example Mormons) raised among ignorant peasants (I don't want to offend anyone, but who can believe that those golden tables were put in that cave by god? it's a really seedy miracle typical of boasting swindlers).
As other people has said in this thread, Cantr hasn't the same conditions. At least, we all players use internet. What the heck faith are you talking about?.
Anyway, if I want to burn some potatoes to my god, how can I do it RPing? hidding the potatoes in a thrash envelope as with stupid notes?
Come on, guy, why you don't want that I burn what I want? Which is the reason for forbidding my fun?
I want to RP a religion around a burning altar that not only me could see!

The golden plates were buried by a man named Moroni, which was a common practice for recording history in Central and South America.
I could debate you about the faith comments, but there's already a thread in non-Cantr discussion for that.
Religious actions generally just consist of living out the philosophy of the religion, plus some traditions/rituals/whatever like praying, dancing, chanting, throwing rotten vegetables at witches, and 'throwing' crossbow bolts at the infidels.
Some of these are already actions, others are not. Someone should be able to create their own, personal action, which they can name and which produces nothing. They could also set the length (in hours) of the project. This could solve problems like singing, praying, dancing, chanting, and other things.

Good idea!
(despite the possibility of people naming absurd or OOCly projects)

Perhaps there could be a method of submitting a project proposal to PD or RD for them to scan and see if they are insulting/ooc/stupid/CRB
This would allow experienced players with characters under 30 to make their project, and each project should only take like 15 seconds tops to scan and make sure it is fine.
There could also be a limit to how many projects one can have, kind of like the 15 character per player cap.
