Fair Trading

Postby Turcqi2Kii » Sun Feb 01, 2004 9:33 pm

There should be a fair trade system that allows two players to select an object and the quantity to trade with eachother, and once both players selected stuff some type of message should come up and say something like "Trade ** for **?". You can make a currency out of stuff with this type of trade system, too. This is better so dumb nuckleheads who don't play by the rules won't say they will trade and end up not giving you anything and run off what you gave them.

Nah, I'd prefer to offer the deals myself; I think I am entitled to skyrocketing foreign good prices, especially if the consumer [SHOULD NOT KNOW] how much its worth.

I think what Turcqi2Kii is saying is that the system wouldn't tell you how much something is worth, it would just be a moderator for trades. Which is how I've thought it should be done all along.
Each person puts up however much they're wanting to trade for however much the other person is, and if both agree, it goes through. If not, it doesn't. I've played computerized Monopoly, and trading properties and stuff is done this way.
It prevents someone from creating a false trade, with no intention of giving the other person anything in return.
On the other hand, in reality, there's always the risk that someone will run with your stuff and be hunted down.

I agree. It sounds like a great idea. I'm not sure it would make any difference with currency, though. The only possible disadvantage is that it might take longer to make a trade, since each character would have to agree on the trade.

yes it'd make it safe to trade with people like this but it isn' safe even in RL to trust anybody wwith money or good's. you always run a risk of somebody ripping you off so why should that element be taken out of the game play ?

No clue. Just an idea I had.

In the real world you can call cops and describe the person you saw, but in the game people can't describe the person saying "A man in his twenties just stole my doughnut!" or a whole bunch of peolle would be prosecuted.

Actually... you could give them a name as like "Do-NUT Stee Lar!" and track the guy down and beat him into the ground yourself...

I dont like this idea. No offense, but thats the way the real world works. None of you have ever been gipped out of your money before? IRL there isnt a way to make trades and guaruntee you get the item by some kind of computerized help. You have to rely on trust.
I think thats how it should remain in game. But..it's just my opinion, as always.

Yah I think by making a "safe" trading system you are surgically removing a huge part of Cantr. You are taking away from the legal system AND interpersonal relationships. I mean if you have to trust someone, trust develops. If you can trade with someone you do not trust at all in the middle of the wilderness and excpect to get a fair deal... that is a little over the top.

although not a bad idea in itself, it goes against the basic principles of Cantr: players have to recreate society, and overcome challenges themselves, without programmed help like a trade system programmed into the game.

I think you just need to use your own judgement. Don't do business with sketchy people.

It should be the character's choice to trade fairly.

You're absolutely right about that.
