Can the presses that will be implemented make coins from any resource that deosn't parish in the game? If based on RL coins, we'd be able to make them out of almost everything except food.

Well how many uses does gold have in RL? It just looks good. It is a pretty flimsy metal. Also the coins that you are going to make with the press they won't have any use besides what your making the use for. I was saying I'm surprised no one has given gold a use by making it a good source of money. Carrying 100g of gold is a lot easier then 4000g of potatoes.

I don't know. I would expect all kinds of metal, and any derived substances eg. steel. unsure about other kinds.

Some substances you can't reallly press into shape, like stone or wood. You'd be better off carving those substances into coins.

not sure...

I'd imagaine that a metal plate used for printing on paper would have the same effect on wood and if the pressure was increased would not only transfer the color but stamp in the imprint into the wood.

Maybe it did from time to time.

All of the wooden sovineer coins I remember seeing were the thickness of two metal nickels {about 3mm} and the size of the top of a Coke can round {about 3 cm}.

Actually in Cantr City it is in the beginning stages of gold used as money, at least with a few people.

I would love to carry gold coins around in my characters pockets!

The thing with gold in RL is humans want it because of what it is and what you can do with it. It is always in demand. In RL you can melt it down and use it. Also in RL gold has a fairly stable value against other commodities. You can purchase about the same amount of goods over long periods of time with gold where modern paper currency which is constantly inflated loses purchasing power over time.

Wood is embossable. I have seen many antique chair backs with relief designs pressed into them.

In RL gold was and still is valued for the look and in cantr you can't real see anything so it isn't that valueable.

I think introducing gold and coins as a currency is a real killjoy. It would be really fun setting up a community, inventing your own currency only to find out that in "international" trade your currency is useless. Unless u invent currency convertings. Anyway, would be fun to see the result and if a currency dominates. And which....

On the other hand, coin presses would be useful if they couldnt be forged. The place (one of) i live in we use points. I haven't seen any yet, so i'm curious.

different areas will come up with different systems.

Think of it like handwriting, with the same pen, or tool, different people, or gropus, can produce different results.
