Newspawns should work faster
All characters under the age of 25 should have a bonus in rates of project completion.
Or, age should be a factor in project rates, and gradually decrease from 1.5 times the standard rate as a newpsawn, to 0.5 of the standard rate for those 'very old' characters.
This bonus would only apply to skills the newspawn is at least 'efficient' in.
It should also only apply if the project they are working on has at least one other character involved.
This would make things 'faster' for new characters, allieviating the boredom/slow pace of playing newspawns. But it would also require them to work with someone, encouraging them to ask for work / offer help, and to specialise in the talents they start with.

Skills gradually decreasing with age would make sense. But I keep thinking newspawns are Cantr babies and it doesn't make much sense that you start in the blooming of your life and it's only downhill from there. On some sectors you only reach the peak in later age. But I agree that skills should start deteriorating heavily after sixty, since that's how it is in real life too. It's just that Cantr is so bloody hard that by the time you've come close to reaching your biggest goals, you're already past 50. This might be due to not having the time of learning that in real life happens at your childhood and teens. Also you start from scratch and if you're a loner, it's gonna take years to reach your goals without oldness kicking in.

Wow, I am completely for this, what a great idea!
Which really gives more meaning to 'getting some sturdy young men to help me out'.. which was the case for one of my characters.
Also makes sense, that the older you are, the weaker.
AND A THIRD BENEFIT.. New players get satisfaction faster!!
So don't be so stubborn and say no. Particularly you, Mykey, who said he was leaving but wasn't. God. Idiot.

Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

Absolutely not. You are actually proposing that we make the game harder on players after they have played for a while? Isn't that what staff is getting yelled at constantly for right now? The game is not that hard to figure out. You poke buttons, stuff happens. If you can't graps that....
An explanation of the game mechanics on the front page might be in order, but not a project speed up. Something in the paragraph about encounters sometimes taking a week, we could add something about activities such as farming and manufacturing occur in a turn based manner over the course of days, interspersed with the opportunity for real time conversation and social interaction. (although that last bit might encourage the "chat room" phenomenon...)

Seko's onto something with skills developing after spawning. Maybe between the ages of 20 and 35, skills increase at a greater rate.
Older characters should be penalised. As it stands, characters do not pass power and responsibility on until after they pop their clogs - and usually they do this without any notice or planning...
This would encourage older characters to start training younger characters.

ok this isn't tooo bad, the rate of skill development changes with age is fine if it takes someone in thier 20's 2 years solid work to go up a level in a skill, and it takes someone in thier 80's 3 times as long to get the same increase in skill under the same conditions, that i can find reasonable. just not draining the life out of aging characters

I agree with Seko's line of reasoning there. It might be the best way for a character deciding to beat the odds. -- an awkward fighter who wants to work his way to the best soldier in the world (since fighting, hunting, and repair are the only skills people really seem to care about
)

Having recently started a few newpsawns, I know how difficult it is. It is a lucky player that starts a newpsawn somewhere where others will even take any notice of them...
Doing anything is a daunting prospect. Even getting a few stitches of clothes takes a good week. It is, frankly, often really boring to play a newspawn. The more active you are, the more older characters seem to get annoyed by this insignificant bay talking-up...
Older characters are reluctant to help, as they have what they want, do not need help, and see no benifits, only the high possibility of risk from lack of loyalty.
Something needs to be done to encourage helping newspawns and passing on responsibility.

I tend to think of newspawns as being teenagers, not quite at thier peek and still a lot to learn, but old enough to start seeing natural tallents showing through and preform physically demanding tasks. I like the Seko's idea but I think strength and endurance to fatugue(if it is currently governed by any given skill or modifier) should degrade at an older age. If old people only slow down thier development without any form of regress, then it wouldnt cause any old/young interdependancy anyway. Maybe have them grow radidly from age 20-30 if exorcised, level off a bit from 30-50, and start seeing a slow fall off after that unless constantly maintained. To me, an old guy should have the wisdom to be exceptionaly profient at things, but lack the physical attributes to follow through with them as a younger man born with those skills might have. This would especially force older gaurds, millitary leaders, and heavy labours to have to rely on and trust thier suboranents more. It would create the real world effect of "young man's" work but without making older charies useless. It would be enteresting to see a 70 year old retired town guard working in a bakery or as a tailor

That's unfortunately true. I would think that the reason for old characters dying with their boots on is that the players see lots of young ones coming and going, catching the sleeping sickness and dying, so they are afraid to let go, in fear of the town falling apart once they're not there to take care of it. So the player goes on as long as they can tolerate is, sacrificing their time and efforts to running a society of ever changing population.
As an ingame example, the town of Seatown hills was lead by.. what's her name again, Ashley Morrison, around the time my fifth character Hannah was spawned there. Anyway, years later Ms Morrison was coming close to dying so she gave all her keys and the mantle of leadership to someone she considered trustworthy. Then she passed away. Not soon after, this so-called trustworthy person died, just like that, leaving the keys lying around and they were stolen by a newspawn, which lead to the new town officials having to rely on outsider help in breaking into their own buildings.
Maybe upon the memory of this event, Hannah has delegated power with others in her town as her powers are waning. I don't think her death will have much of an effect, as if I'll have any say on it, I'll make sure it doesn't happen in the open, unless she's handed off her keys. (Not to worry that I was in process of killing her just yet, just going gradually more inactive and turning into a silly old lady.)
