Instead of having the knock, point and enter buttons for every building, how about having just one set of buttons at the top of the list and a radio selection next to each building? Or better yet, have the buildings in a dropdown menu. You select one and it's like approaching it, then it asks what you wanna do with it and you pick point at, enter or knock, and "try if it's locked" would be a nice addition too. This would make warning the whole town by knocking a bit harder, but then again, it does take some trouble in real life too.
Also the numbers are pointless as long as the buildings have names on them.
The same thing with inventory items, have one set of buttons only. Hmm, if you'd click on the resource and that would bring out the menu (on a separate page if you can't arrange nifty pop-ups), then it wouldn't matter that resources, objects and clothing have different kinds of buttons since the right ones would be presented based on what type of an item was selected.
These be things from a slow-connection perspective. I never realized it could be this tough for anyone in our modern age of information superhighways...

I like how changing boat direction now takes you to the events page, but is there any way to seperate undocking and changing direction? It would be nice if undocking would take you to the locations page so that you could set a course (if undocking is indistinguishable from changing course though, nothing can be done).

Return to character list button should also be presented in the top of the page, since currently (due to crappiness of my Internet connection) it takes several minutes to load a list of People or Buildings in a big town, or Objects in a storage. If I'd like to return to the character listing for some reason before the page has completely loaded, I would have to click on some short page such as Location to get the button show up fast.
tiddy ogg: Yes, having to scroll up to reach the buttons WOULD be a bad idea, now that you mention it. But I was just thinking maybe drawing all the buttons row after row plays some part in the slowness of the loading of lists. I was wondering if displaying less of them would make the page load faster.
It should be noted that characters already have the buttons on a separate page. It could work like that for buildings as well. When you click on the building name, in addition to the renaming box you would get the buttons for entering, knocking and pointing at.

Machinery should go on top at the Objects page... I've managed to time out while searching for a curing tub in a room that also serves as the primary town storage. Dreadful. Soon I will actually have to start moving things out of the way to reach what I'm searching for.
Seriously, this would make sense in the light of bigger piles being seen first, since machinery sounds pretty big as well.

The tools menu is completely screwed up, i can see you've tried to group the items together, but you haven't. For example; Why is improved wheelbarrow under 'i' and not 'w' with the other Wheelbarrow?
The small stone pot, and small oilpump, why are they under 'Sm' and not 'P' and 'O' respectively? These are only a few of the many discrepancies.
Either have it in alphabetical order of tools, or have it in alphabetical order of the first letter of the name. Don't leave as a mixture of the two.
And perhaps to lessen the list one has to search through, maybe there should be a new list for food-related items.

Why not have something like
Weelbarows:
weelbarow
improved weelbarow
and
Axes:
axe
stone axe
3/4 axe
I agree completely... On an unrelated note. When I view notes,on the ground. Using the ingame back button, redirects me to inventory, this is a nuisance, when trying to read all the notes. I find myself using the back button on the browser, which I know is frowned upon, is there any easy way, to have notes viewed from the ground, redirect you to objects? Or does this happen assuming you are viewing notes in your possesion?
that is very minute wasting (and anoying) and should be changed

It has to be to some degree. The items are listed by their true "name" (not what characters see), adn this also determines what the tool can be used for. For example, both the stone hammer and the normal hammer have the name "hammer". If the stone hammer had its name changed to "stone hammer", then it could no longer be used as a hammer. The wheelbarrows and pots are by themselves because they each act as different tools, and thus must have different names (if we were to name the small pot, "pot, small" to make it fall under p, then it would appear as "pot, small" in project requirements). What this means however, is if someone sees that they need a hammer for a project, they can look under the letter "H" and find all of the hammers that would work.

That's all very well for people who understand what every single object does and what it should be grouped with. But the rest of us just want to find what we're looking for quickly and not waste 6 minutes looking up and down a list wondering if we're in the wrong menu.

This solution may be specific to my tts software, but... does a standard browser "find" command find text on a page?
Mine does, so with long lists, activate the search function, (ctrl + F or whatever) type a few letters of the word and press <enter>
I'd like to know if this doesn't work for you... maybe one thing at least about my system is an advantage.
*grin*

I feel it might be easier to read many of the build menus if their contents were displayed in more than one column. Even on a low resolution monitor it seems that they would fit and it would reduce the annoying scrolling currently required to find things in the menus.
Never mind the bollocks, here's The House of Representatives.
