I do take this as a sensible suggestion - Though I will say it's unlikely to be accepted - see several other rejected suggestions which amount to the same thing -
The physical geography of Cantr was finished a long time ago and there are no plans to change this . The towns you mentioned may very well be in decline but other younger towns are on the rise , This happens in real life as well (where's Babylon now?) just it's a lot faster in Cantr.

You know what, this sounds like a stupid idea on first glance but I actually quite like it. I'm not quite sure how you are saying it would work though?
Are you saying everyone from.... say AJS would be transported to say....... Siom, and everyone from towns near there to towns near Siom etc so that relationships are still in tact?
This would make a suden change for many people, muck up many IG events currently happening, destroy years of history.....
And yet I love it
However languages I'm not so certain about. But I would not object to them being moved closer together, so that a polish island is say...... a year from an english island etc. This would encourage cross-language civilisations whilst still keeping in tact most of the history of the continents.
But anyway yeah, random idea, would cause alot of troubles and many people will hate it, but I like it

I voted no, but agree that we don't need an ever expanding world, which is what we now have. What did Chris say the other day? Only 10% of locations inhabited. In my time of playing, with a fairly constant player base, (I assume), many of the towns my chars frequent have shrunk as people build boats and hunt for something new.
But without vastly improved babelfish style software, I can't see this working. Talk about nerfing... how slow is it going to be if you have to translate every message and/or reply.

Well, all my living characters are already on the area of the three islands mentioned, exept for one who would CERTAINLY not want to be teleported to a crowded location all of a sudden. Gee, how are you supposed to manage being a pirate if every town has like dozens of people? You would have to brainwash a whole town to have your secret cove. In real life there were endless of hiding places but Cantr is limited to predefined spots.
You can't turn back time. Too much would be changed. All that can be done is to assure that the language groups of the future will be placed as far away from the others as possible. Though maybe the world is not as big as imagined to be, after all, if my Swedish guy has a map of Turkish, German and Esperanto placings and one of my English guys has a Polish map. And someone said that Swedish and Polish people had met somewhere? It's a small world then.

In the end I couldn't decide how to vote. I agree with Mykey's rationale but not his described solution. The game map is indeed simply far far too big, oceanic distances far too great, and the new islands in particular far too empty. However, the solution is too drastic. There are already some towns on the established continents that are rather overpopulated for my personal taste, though only a few. I must admit, though, that Aki, Burgeo and such places leave me cold. I do not want to spawn there again and I pity the newcomers to the game who must have spawned their first characters there from time to time.

I disagree not only with the solution but with the "problem" as well. yeah things are always happening in a city with 30+ people but that doesn't automaticly make them more fun places to be. My first Charie spawned on a mountain top with no more than 3-4 other people and I get some of my best RPing out of him b/c it is such a small place where everyone knows everyone, and does everything, so he's done everything from refining iron, building houses, cooking food, making clothes, I could tell you half of what's in the Wiki just based on the odd jobs he's had to fill. He;s given me a more diverse flavor of this game than anyone else could have. One of my latter charies, and still one of my most boring (though be it richest), spawned in a large well developed part of the world, and he doesn't get to do much fun RPing b/c he's not important enough in his society for anything he sais to be of any consiquence. Don't know where Aki and Burgeo are, but I'll bet I could find a way to make them fun places to spawn
.
As for language groups being too far apart, I say all for the better. I might know enough Spanish to not be exicuted on spot when asked my name, but I don't know any of the vast majority of languages that Cantr features and to suddenly have them dropped in my lap would mean I might as well have spawned in a town of original size but with much fewer resources, accept that I'd have to scroll though a bunch of text I'd just wind up ignorong anyway looking for sometihng I can understand.
And there are some towns of steadly growing population to explain why large places are shrinking, you want more people in Siom, then go visit the neighboring towns and find some people. I've actually seen a person from there doing just that, and he recruited one of our small towns people looking for a big city life.

Okay, and now that you have all these "possibilities" how do you ever get noticed as an individual to be including in anything? All of the sudden, you'd have all the Caveman/woman archtypes (I know of at least 5 personally) in a very concentrated area... You'd have all the people with interesing traits simply getting lost to the tide of speach, whispering, and RPing...
Besides... what's the first thing almost half the people that show up will do? Move. There's not enough resources to sustain that sort of populace, so people would leave or die trying. You'd temporarily have some intrigue from the chaos of the rearrangement of people, but people would rather quickly respread themselves out both to survive and to avoid being anonymous.

edit - I'm really torn as to how to answer the poll. I like the theory behind it, but the application of it seems to severe. Also, what about all the work that has gone into mapping distance between the islands? I think this is a matter of not being able to remedy the problem because it has been around for too long.
Personally, I'd like to see the possibility to increase the number of resource slots through a project.
It really pains me to see places with 2 resources and like 12 slots (with 3 people there) and then a place with like 14 people, 8 resources, and 3 slots (exaggerated i know)
Sure, machines reduce the need for slots, but still.
And yes, I think the world is too large. Think of europe, with many different languages all in close proximity.
Also as for translating via online resources, i find that to be bad rp. charries don't have an innate knowledge of other languages, and players in my mind shouldnt use outside sources to help their characters understand what is going on around them. Maybe cantr can do something along the lines of creating a formula to encode a language when viewed by another language group. This formula could be universal so as not to prevent communication through in game translation. The problem I can see is having to register the language group a note is written in, as some polish charries I have seen have only talked in polish, and emoted in english.
On second thought, encoding is stupid >< Just be faithful and rp to your characters knowledge bounds, and don't surpass what they'd logically know.
