Longest running government official
I was just wondering about this, because one of my chars has had dreams of retirement for a while now, but can't seem to get to it for various reasons. That char is Stabber Stan in Siom who has held his present position in the Siom government since about 5 days after he was born, which makes it almost 25 years now. He's also the only remaining original gov official from when he first drafted the original incarnation of the present Siom laws, one other, Jordan Moris, is alive but not part of the Siom gov any more.

Well out of the 8 characters of mine that are still alive *8 others have died and I figured there was not point in replacing them don't count* only 2 of mine are affiliated with any Government at all. Mine that is in the Naron/Lad Imperial Guard has been in there for 5 years *just under the time I've been playing* and almost 3 years for one of my chars affiliated with 2 diff gvts in the Aki Isle.

Sort of a strange question from the two characters that are sort of in goverment.
Both characters are in seperate locations with many other people but there is no goverment persay. That being said they are sort of one of those in charge of the location.
All the others either serve goverments or are unattached to a goverment.
I think it is a good idea to only run one or two govermental leaders and let the rest be followers of other players goverments with some wonderers mixed in for flavor.

Yeah, that is a good idea David, but when your characters get in their thirties and fourties and have stayed somewhere for awhile, I have noticed they tend to just naturally become leaders, or at least this is what I have noticed with my characters. My longest involved governmental char has been in the Lad Empire for 19 years, survived 3 emperors and worked his way up the political ranks.

Yeah the rest of mine, about 6 excluding the two governmental persons are purposeful wanderers, acting as 'other players' while in locations until they leave aproximate 1-2 years later. It gives me some taste to each city, and sometimes they find themselves a city they like a live in. Its kinda dum just to stay where you spawn, to my thinking, try it, and if you don't like it, leave it. But me Ranger Char doesn't have the real choice of staying.

Well, most of the time we aren't actually in East Kol, just gathering stuff for it. So it's no suprise that you think it's abandoned...cuz well, it is.
I just can't stop coming back....
