Circle map view

Postby Zanthos » Wed Aug 23, 2006 4:56 pm

Sop when did the map go into circle form?

This is both good and bad in my opinion. Good, in that I personally like the circular map better than the square map. Bad, in that its going to make mapmaking through in game images a wee bit harder, as the pieces won't perfectly fit togeather in a grid.

A grid? You need to cascade the pieces, what does it matter if they're square or round?

It matters alot if your making maps.

First, you can see alot more with a square map.

Second, it's alot easier to create a map with square bits than round ones. If you don't whan't to save the map every hour.

One of my charries are mapping a completely new island. And he(me) have given up since the round map bit are thougher to make a map with.

As I understand it, the round map has the same width as the old square map. That's only about a 21.5% reduction in area - not a big deal in my opinion.

Good mapmaking always did require that you save the map every few hours. Walking on land with a small load, I saved twice a day and got good overlap. The change to round maps should not in either case significantly increase the frequency at which you have to save maps, unless you were travelling exclusively on the diagonal directions before.

You're wrong Sho. Round map area has been calculated to be equal of square area. Here's the formula:

Image

where r is circle radius and a is half of square side length. And RD is going to introduce apropriate items to increase field of view

I was going to point that out, but exactally. Try clicking before asking questions. Also its no diffrent when making maps., just have to make sure you pay attention is all.

Also you can make the map anyway you want. For all your char knows there is only the Towns and no ocean, maybe there is nothing more than the roads and the towns. Which is basicly true for most chars.
Just because I'm not paying attention doesnt mean you can yell at me.

It means you should talk quieter.
Seriously shut up, I'm playing here.

Maybe an instructional line placed under the circle map, saying "Click on map to show classical square view." would be in order.

Yep, that helped. By the way, are the circular map bigger than the square(in pixels) or am i just tired?

If so, the circular map would be better to use when it comes to map making.

The diameter of the circular map is somewhat larger (12.8 percent) than the width of the square map (and smaller than the diagonal length), just enough so that the two have equal area.

Yes, then you can see more... But a little less where the corners should have been.

I think i shall do both a map with the use of the circular and one with the square one. And see which works the best.

Yes, thank you... I have already been told that.

And i was talking about making one map using the round bits and making one map with the old map bits. Just to compare which is best in making maps.

Ironic that he accuses others of not reading posts, isn't it?

Unless, of course, he's admitting that he didn't read it all...

Yeesh, precision of language is impossible with English.
