Animals should dodge

Postby SekoETC » Mon Aug 21, 2006 8:02 pm

Those poor pigeons and rabbits are getting wasted since they don't have good armor. It's stupid that all animals in Cantr just stand around, waiting to get hit. Some of them charge on a random innocent person for revenge, but the rabbits and raccoons and pigeons and such are just sitting ducks. And people want their fur cloaks and feather earrings...

So what I suggest is that animals should have a chance to dodge, and small and agile animals would be more likely to dodge than big and clumsy ones such as tortoises and elephants. What you would get is "You try to hit an X with a bone spear but miss."

The pigeons might be goners already, 3 on one big island and 12 on the other, but the rabbits might still be saved if programming gives them a chance to dodge.

I like it.
But why don't rabbits breed faster, like, er, rabbits?

I agree with you Seko, but I know from my chars expirience, that rabbits are in good shape, and there are a lot of them. Never seen a pigeon, though :)

No, this idea pretty much dooms some of the places like aki if the deer and horses and all the other medium sized things can dodge

I like the idea, but some places rely on small game for survival, one of my charies is in a town were the only reliable food source is turtles and hawks with an ocasional goat, and guess what, them turtles arent easy enough to kill to suport the number of people who live there. A lot of places that are just barely livable right now would become even more inhospitable meaning that animal product would need to be ajusted acordingly for these places to continue to survive.

On a realted note I had a differnt idea for making hunting more interesting. As of now there are two general classes of weapons, melee and ranged, but in game as far as I know, there is no differnece. I was thinking it would be cool if bows were given a weighted advantage in killing animals and melee weapons a weighted advantage in killing people. This would probly make most of the foresters and metal workers happy as forests are typically dependant on hunting, and metal workers would be a little better situated to deffend thier nice and valueble goods. It also makes since as it is really hard to sneak up close enough to an animal to hit it just like it's hard to aim a bow at someone who is already right next to you trying to stab you with a sword. It would also give a better feal of personalization to your weapon so when faced with the deccison of making say: a crossbow or a battle-axe, you would have to consider not only the prossess required, but also what you plan to use it for.

Well, talented hunters would have a better chance in getting a hit in. The chance of dodging, ie causing a miss, would be dependant on the animal type, I propose adding a column for it in the animals table and it would be a percentage value, being like 0.01 for tortoises and 0.5 or more for some real fast animals like cheetah. But it could be divided by some figure based on the hunting skill.
