To Absent Friends :P

Postby UloDeTero » Mon Aug 21, 2006 3:04 pm

Related to the Speaking within a vehicle thread, how many times have you read the Events, seen something said to your charry, replied to it, then realised that the reply wasn't heard because the other charry had left the area soon after speaking? Yes, it tells you in the events, but it's so easy to miss.

After all, IRL you wouldn't say something to someone who wasn't there (other than in the case of mental problems, but that's beside the point...), and only realise your mistake when you finish talking. It's annoying, because it's unrealistic and a typical RP-disrupting "it's-just-a-game" moment ("Do I pretend it didn't happen? Do I RP it as absent-mindedness? Do I simply repeat it again when the charry reappears?")

I propose that the appearance of charry names be altered slightly, so that you can tell at at glance whether they're still in the area or not. Say, if they're no longer present, the name is a different colour, or italic, or something... Then you can see that So-and-So said Blah but is no longer here, so don't bother replying right now.

[Note: This is not the same as a similar thread, which suggested changing the appearance of characters' names based on whether the player was logged in or not!]

I have done that several times. Just use the talk to all and pertend like nothing happend. RP simple your char was talking to such and such and didn't relize they left the are so tels eveyone so that when such and such comes back they know what you said.
Just because I'm not paying attention doesnt mean you can yell at me.

It means you should talk quieter.
Seriously shut up, I'm playing here.

havn't you ever been walking with someone talking to them, and then one of you like stops and turns around for something? Or like, you two are working and one of you gets up and a little while later the other asks something, then realizes nobody is next to them? It happens all the time.

Usually the other char disappears while you are typing the message, so I can't see how this will help.

Just refresh the page every time your done typing and copying your message and see if the person your talking to is there or not. Once sure you can paste your message back without having to type it again. This suggestion may erase the hassle of checking the char. page when your attempting to check the person your talking to.

...or don't waste time programming this, and just whisper the person. :P
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."
