Knit wool skirt

Postby SekoETC » Thu Aug 17, 2006 3:04 pm

Currently we have lots of silly wool items from the times when wool cloth didn't exist yet. One of the craziest ones is the knit wool skirt. First of all, such a thing would stretch formless under it's own weight, and secondly it would take much more time to knit than what the game suggests.

So, what to do with it?

Option 1: Change knit wool skirt into wool cloth - items already in Cantr receive a free upgrade, but future projects will require cloth instead of yarn

Option 2: Disable knit wool skirt but let it remain in the database - existing pieces keep the old description but new ones cannot be made; a long wool skirt that uses cloth may later be added as a separate item

Option 3: Leave the knit wool skirt in, I wanna make more of them - even though material amount and production time are likely to rise

Be noted that more reasonable knit items are likely to be added, so no worries that your knitting needles would turn useless.

The results of this poll may be extended to deciding the fate of the wool cloak and possibly some other items as well.

2 or 3 ... because 1 involves ProgD having to upgrade existing clothes and projects - Generally items should not be removed from the database - Make them unmanufactuable but keep them for data integrity

Naw it wouldn't. If the description is changed, it automatically affects the existing items. As for the resources, they don't matter in finished items, right? The projects might have to be changed, I guess you know it better. It would be like the hunting bows to longbows change.

The item will not be removed from the database in any case, but if option 1 gets support, the requirements for making the current knit skirt will be changed from yarn to cloth, and the description altered accordingly.

You need a fourth option:

leave the knit skirts as is, but add a different skirt made from wool cloth

I would prefer that.

Yeah, the third option doesn't rule out the chance of a long wool cloth skirt.

If I didn't make my point clear, I think the knit skirt is a stupid idea nonexistant in real life, and who ever added it doesn't know much about knitting.

Option 2

It makes the most sense, current ones will eventually go out of use as people die or make better clothing (and I can't imagine there's a whole lot of them anyway) and leaves it open for a possible replacement.

If you disable the item, it become really rare, and.. priceless? I like that option.

A quick google on 'knitted skirt pattern' returns several hits. Many of them for patterns using needles rather than machines. It may be rather less non-existant than you think.

What's this about? My wife knew a couple of old ladies who knitted skirts and suits...

Well, Google proves me wrong in saying they're non-existant but they are still rare. I would imagine that if you use such a skirt long without anything to cover it, it would get chafed over the ass and start unraveling rather soon. Take the wool pants/leggings for example, such a thing is often worn under a skirt or a proper pair of trousers for insulation, or at least with a long tunic that covers the crotch.

How about a knit cloak then? Luckily there's no rain in Cantr since that thing would be drinking it all up like a sponge.
