When we say "torus" we're conveniently ignoring any curvature an actual torus might have. A cleverly folded sheet of paper (quarter folds will do it, with the right linkages between edges) would indeed be a more accurate representation of the Cantr world and would still technically be a torus.

You mean you steal credit for discovering that the world is round and genocide native populations of the lands you delusionally call Japan, despite the lack of Japanese people?

Topologically equivalent to a torus - it doesn't mean it is actually a torus. This would be the easiest to implement and arguably the most sensible.

Some other designs would work too, eg. Klein bottle, real projective plane.

In order to continue this discussion amongst our resident genii, Why couldn't it be a Mobius strip? Inquiring minds want to know.

The projective plane (a k a cross surface) is almost equivalent to the Mobius strip - punching a disk out of a cross surface will give you a Mobius strip and vice versa. The problem with the Mobius strip is that it would, like a cylinder, require there to be infinite ocean or an "edge of the world" in two directions.
But neither the Klein bottle nor the cross surface is very likely for Cantr because it would take extra programming work to have orientations reverse themselves.

Sorry, I'm a graphic artist, so when my bitmaps get all distorted trying to wrap it around a true torus, it matters! However and you are right it would have to be quarterfolded, not half folded, so technically it would be a double-face renderd, uncaped cilinder, not a plane. Although I guess if you believe in Steven Hawkings "bowl universe" theory, I guess it's perfectly plausable that a single point in space (ie: a pixel) would become progessively smaller as you move closer to the origin, but that might only effect the progress of time, it's been awhile since I've read up on my time-space theories so I don't quite remember, I'm sure Sho will correct me if I'm wrong  ... But that might also meen that Cantr would have to be an entire universe unto itself being the result of a very small exploding sigularity... makes me want to spawn a quantum phyisist, it's like playing a prophet charater, only athiest

I could read this shit all day. You guys are seriously amazing.

What about Conformal Mappings on a Rieman Surface? :?

No reason not, I suppose (I don't know much about Riemann surfaces, beyond the definition) . . . but I doubt it. I don't think Jos is quite that insane.

Nooooo! You're right! Fu**ing Eur***ans!
Spanish, english, french, dutch and portuguese have done an holocaust on these lands, exterminating races, such as the caribbeans and onas, among others.

The way I see it now, assuming the joinss ar n-s and e-w any of these 4 directions will get you there, otherwise you'll spiral around the torus.
Of course, it may not have been rolled on a cardinal point, so you'll spiral around anyway.

In order for a char to survive a trip that long you would need extensive resources with you. Your ship will get damage thanks to the diteriation rule and your char will get hungry. Regardless of weather you will actually form a complete circle. Worry about the well being of your char. For they will shurly die before you reach land regardless of the shape of the world.
Just because I'm not paying attention doesnt mean you can yell at me.

It means you should talk quieter.
Seriously shut up, I'm playing here.

Well they could stop get the ship repaired and get food and keep going.
