Sleeping and Working

General out-of-character discussion among players of Cantr II.

Moderators: Public Relations Department, Players Department

Should players RP to better simulate RL or should they accept the differences when RPing?

People should RP to smooth over the differences between real life and cantr.

People should RP so that their characters work and act within the structure of the cantr world.

Sleeping and Working

Postby kroner » Wed Jan 21, 2004 12:28 am

In cantr, people can work while they sleep and usually do and cantr isn't RL so this should be perfectly natural. But people never RP it that way. They always try to avoid adressing the seeming conflict that they are working and sleeping at the same. But why? It shouldn't seem weird at all. This is true of a lot of other differences between cantr and RL. Should people RP to simulate RL more or should they RP within the structure of the game?

if people had to roll play to simulate the real world, they would have to stop projects while they were "sleeping" and off line. Because there is a limited amount of time a player can be logged on, it is totally impractical to stop working while logged off.

yes, in cantr, its natural to work and sleep. people dont avoid the topic, they just dont discuss it because it isnt nessisary to explain why you finished gathering 3000 g wood without saying hello once.

there are players who never talk, never rp. just gather resources and travel around and get stuff. no big deal, those are the "silent masses" of people that would be normal in any real world, they dont vote they dont talk they go to work and come home. it makes the society more real to have some quiet people i think.

It should be completely up to the player to which you say, "Alright, its been a long day and I wanto go to sleep." Which I tend to use when I really do go to sleep, or, "I need to get back to working these mines," when at school.

I like my idea of the endurance system and I think that would solve the problem of sleeping and working on projects.

I think in Cantr "sleeping" refers not to actual sleep as in RL, but just working quietly not paying attention or responding to the rest of the world, so it's not really a conflict. The idea of sleep is just different in Cantr to RL
