No character has been selected

Postby wichita » Thu Jul 27, 2006 12:17 pm

I have no particular pattern to reliably reproduce this error. Occasionally when I click on an action - be it dropping a material, joining a project, or posting speech - I am getting kicked out to the Player page. When I click on a character again, the message "No character has been selected" is thrown at the top of the screen, even though whatever action I was starting was completed.

Sometimes it has happened while whispering or naming characters. I am not sure if I am remembering correctly, but I think those times I was redirected back to the events page instead of the players page. This happened rarely.

On a slightly related note, with my non-English characters, I am noticing that the interface switches to English everytime I post an event or complete an action. When I click again, it goes back to the translation. While I can deal with this, I am feeling disoriented flipping between letters and chinese constantly. :)

Don't know if anybody else has noticed this. I almost posted under MySQL errors, but it doesn't throw any messages. Hopefully there is some little nugget of helpfulness buried in here that might give you a debugging clue.

Well, in the past players occasionally get page witch bunch of PHP/mysql errors. Now instead of that they get 'No character has been selected' error. It happens when our system 'forgets' which character you are currently playing. This is not your fault, just Cantr engine errors.

I was aware it wasn't my fault, I just I had more detailed information to help you find the errors. ;)

I will keep an eye out for any more clues.

I've been getting that as well...

One thing I can add, is that when I get kicked back to the Player Page, it is as if was kicked to the point where I've just log in... What I mean is, if I log in to check my character, and I saw 7 of them have white outline. I will go to check them all... even if I am checking my last character, when I get kick out, the screen will show all 7 characters in white outline again.

Not sure if that mean anything?

Also, it seems to happen to a particular character of my more than any other character...

Same for me.

Since the inventory button update I haven't noticed the site translation flipping back to English. :D That is good news.

It seems to me I get this every time I click any button before the site is completely loaded. It happens less often if I wait till the site is loaded, but most of the time I´m too impatient for that...

In my experience, whenever I would get that, it would be because instead of clicking the return to previous page button on the page or another button, I would just go back on my browser. Not sure if that is the same for you guys, but yeah.
All of my endings are waiting to begin.

Yes, correct. That's when I get it. In my case it happens when I've clicked the browser's back button and instead of just bringing up the immediately preceding page, it takes me back the the player menu. Then when I try to go back into a character I get the message. I'm really not bothered by it.

Currently, I have not be using 'back button' when that problem comes up... Like Wichita said, the problem is happening when I pickup/drop object, and the page will automatically jump to the player's page.... also when I enter/exit building, before I can see the page where I arrived in the room, I get boot back to the player's page...

Is there anything new regarding this problem? This is happening to 2 of my characters just about all the times now... everything I do will drop me back to my Players Page....
