You'd be'er be here at high tide!!
now, I was listening to that thing made by pengwin, the one about the sloop modifications, and he said that you can only beach your sloops at high tide. And I was thinking... why not make that the deal? You can beach any ship, up to a sertain size, at hight tide, and unbeach it, at low tide. How will this be implumented you ask? well, fairly easy. In location, it sais either high tide, at wich you can beach or unbeach many tipes of ships, or it sais the persent of time before it is hight or low tide, and if its, like, 50%, you can beach smaller ships, 0%(going to high tide) than you can only beach longboats, and the like. And also, I'd Imagin, that this might add some glamor to seaside R.Ping. and also, maby, at high tide, wood, and stuff, might land up on the beach, like driftwood, and on some unforisted island, this would be the only way to get wood, and now wouldn't that be kinda cool?
It's a small thing, but it would make seafaring a bit more of a trade, and a bit less of a "hey look, that newspawn is sailing a dingy" thing.

Several chars talk about tides, referring to the sailing tick. If you want to take this suggestion anywhere, I'd suggest that if you try to undock, you don't actually do so until this tick... which will give people a chance to have a go at pirates.
This means you will dock at one high tide and not be able to leave until the next.

I think I am actually in favor of ditching the instant undock, not in order to nerf and shank the pirates, but to even out the game mechanics and bring continuity.
If you undock, you still have to wait for the next movement tick or "tide" to go anywhere anyway.
If it were possible to level out combat a bit better to make it more interesting, we could still have it in game without eradicating pirates too easily, but also removing the sense of helplessness and frustration that comes with having a crew dock, smack you in the back of the head, pinch all your stuff, and then zip off to perfect safety, all in the span of 30 seconds while you happened to be logged off.

I think waiting for the tick makes sense. Instant undocking is one of those things that never fit in with everything else in Cantr very well.
Of course the smart pirates will coordinate everything to just a minute before the tick and still sail away before anyone has a chance to react, but at least there's a little risk even with that...miss it and they'll be stuck there for another three hours. (Not enough time to kill them or break a lock, but somebody might wake up in time to start undocking too and get ready to go after them.)

If we do make the undock take a turn, we should allow someone to set course and speed while docked and have the vessel assume that course and speed when it undocks. I don't think we want to require people to log in twice just to get their ship moving. (once to undock, then again to set course and speed)
