oooh language clashing, interesting, I wonder what it'd be like if I got my chinese charrie to sail to an english island, all too interesting. Well yea, not gonna happen, barely trying to survive right now, and also map making. I think I did see a polish map in plaekur or something, can't remember where, but I did see a map in the polish language.

I got a lot of contact with German en Spanish characters with my Dutch characters. I like to try to figure out words and the language of them. But it is very difficult. I haven't met a person who really put effort in things like this beside me. And to figure out the basics of a foreign language on my own, well, that takes too much time from me. I just need to find a German or Spanish person who wants to work together with me...and who is active!

Maybe one day, I'll just keep trying to learn their language...

Maby you should wate for one to come to you. Think about it, they would probably be a more active caricter if they came to you, and it's alot easyer.

That would maybe be easier, but then I could easily wait a couple of years until somebody comes to me.

My Spanish character usually ignores the Germans that come through. (Or maybe they're Dutch, I can't tell the difference. ) Of course, his town is so ridiculously inactive that he pretty much just ignores everyone.

A while ago I had a travelling Spanish character, and I ran into the problem of whether to emote in Spanish or English. Is it typical to emote in English (or a language that the player can understand) and speak in whatever other language, or should we always emote in our character's language? Or doesn't it matter so long as we get the point across? Since emotes are supposed to be physical gestures, is that CR breaching?

You may freely emote in any language as long as you are trying to make yourself understood.

Yes, that is the PD's stance as well.

I really don't know how I'll cope with such a meeting. In RL the obvious thing to do is point at things, but that is out in Cantr if neither of you knows a word of the other's language. You can't even shrug or nod your head. About the only thing you can do is give your acquaintance things, I guess... or hit him... to enable any communication.
Yes, I guess that's the way. Give something then say it's name. But how to learn where hematite is if neither of you have it...
Could be interesting, if you've the patience.

I have a character that has just came across a man on an island and they are the only two in town.. I think he is speaking Arabic but I am not sure even. How can I try to comunicate.. so far all we have managed to do is point to myself and give my name. AND he has too.. so we know each othes names.. But when I try to gesture something he doesnt understand and I dont understand his getstures.. is it legal to google translations

You can use translaters to emote or understand emotes, but you should not use them to understand speach. Note however that translaters are known for spewing gibberish sometimes.

now I think this might be Russian.. Truth is I AM LOST HERE.. I would like to Role Play this out. (<----NOTICE PERIOUD) I like the thought of trying to communicate with someone from a different language. (<--- another one) But I need help in determining just what language this is and what is the best Translator website I can use to understand his Emotes and to Emote myself. I will leave the speech out since that seems to be a CRB but the emotes are ok.. so

I think something is not right with your character encoding on the browser...because I don't think what you just posted is a language at all.... :)

Translates as "don't understand" in Russian I believe.
