Money

Postby quidit » Sun Jan 18, 2004 5:01 pm

Are there any City's that use money in a real sense, where the only thing you trade is money for work or objects. I think that would make a town very interesting but none of my chars are in a town like this and nobody really seems interested. when I was in Lad I gave the Emporer there a typed out plan how he could impliment money into his gov. but he never got back to me and told me what he thought, then I died.

Ladvicitavoi already had a money system. It is just rarely used anymore and I don't even think it has been used since teh days of Emperor Alexi Romanov.

Quillanoi has a money system called the Qui.

MY favorite money system that doesn't exist anymore is the Councilhead in Tircqi that was created by my character Thomas Covenant.

The thing about money is that people have to accept it as a value first before they actually begin using. It is easier in a primitive culture to simply barter with someone for what you need by giving them what you have that they need. It seems that money only complicates things so a lot of people that have been trying to bring about a money system have had long difficult battles to do so.

Quillanoi's money system is quite established, and should increase in use now they have a tax collector, so there is an incentive to earn Quii. It's probaly the thing that Quillanoi needs to boost the use of its money system

I also know about two different cities in the Dutch part of the world where a money system is being used. Both systems look like the famous Councilheads in Tircqi, so rk, why not learn Dutch language?

I'm not sure but I think someone would have to control Food and make it so the only way to get it is buy buying it with money., but if you saw someone gathering food that was not part of a food gathering team you would have to punish them. Just one way of many I'm sure to start a money system. What are some other ideas people have used to start money and what worked best?

It seems like it. Things were really in disarray before he started. My char hasn't paid any taxes in over 3 years. :)
It's even harder when you have to learn everyone's names first...

My character in Quillanoi is perpetually ignored, brushed aside or just overlooked in some way, shape or form. She isn't a citizen because noone answered her,and someone IS trying to give her Qui.Noone answers her questions about taxes,so it's very inefficient this Money system.I really would prefer it if they just dropped it...and traded for resources. It's so m uch easier...Quillanoi is to me...a town that is too BIG. There are too many people there that are bouncing all over the place.

it is quite ineffecient, but I think that is because not enough people want to put the effort in. If there were a team of bank managers, rather than one, the bank would work more smoothly I think, because there is a better chance of having your questions/requests heard. The same goes for any other area of the government

Well if there was a reserve system thaere wouldn't be as big a problem. I think a reserve system attached to steel would be best, since if people really wanted to trade in they could. there are a lot of other deals that would have to be worked out though. Probably not steel if you had security concerns lol.

I thought the Quii was backed... People trade in resources for Quii and unless the bank is removing resources to use them, there should be equal resources stored to the number of Quii in circulation. Of course the bank could take resources out and no one would be the wiser, moving towards a non-backed currency. This would solve the governments budget problems permanently. The only way there would be a problem is if there was a run on the bank, but resources are too easy to come by for anyone to get panicked about them. This could even be happening. My character wouldn't know.
