Well I've been thinking about this, and now I'm kind of wanting to play a slave, just to try something different.

But there are a lot of problems with this...first of all it wouldn't work for anyone expect maybe one or two of my current characters, since they all have their own goals and established personalities already (I mean, if they were kidnapped or whatever I'd still play it through just to keep them alive, but they would hate it and look for any chance to escape.)

And with a newspawn, or the one or two characters I have who would adjust pretty easily to this since they're kind of insecure and wouldn't mind taking orders, how do you go about getting them turned into a slave? It's not like you can write a note to advertise it, and if you made an annoucement most people would probably just give you a weird look and back away slowly. :D

So short of making excuses to hang out on boats or go in buildings that belong to suspicious looking people, there's not much you can do...and even then you might just get killed or locked up in a room by yourself, and there's the fact that I don't know how long I could stand taking orders from someone who can't RP, can't type, or more likely both.

I'm considered trying out the other side and enslaving a couple of people with my really evil char, but even my friendly ones are constantly running into people that would rather die than get a slap on the wrist for breaking a law, so I don't know how many sleepers you'd have to go through to find one that that would actually RP it out, unless you got lucky and go a hold of one of Surly or wichita's chars, or some other good RPer.

(Speaking of Surly and wichita, how's that whole slave thing working out for you, by the way? :P)

So far so good for my slave guy. I don't know if he counts as a slave really, since the door on the cottage is not locked and he could just wander off at any time, but the dude that drug him inside hasn't asked him to go away yet.

Maybe he will wander back in eventually and ask why I am still in there baking all of his bread.

How to get a slave: hire a newspawn or an unknown traveller, ask them to help you build an extension, or drag out a corpse or something, then lock the door. If it's a sub room, no one can hear them knocking. Start projects and tell the person to work or else. Exept that most people choose to starve themselves. Give them hope. Claim that you'll release them if something. Start a repair for a crowbar (you know how long those projects are), let them work on it and keep track of the progress, then right after it finishes, go inside and collect it.

:D Indeed, although a slave boat would be interesting. And more possible with the cabins.

Right, the cabins, I forgot about the cabins. It was pretty impossible to have prisoners on a boat before that, since just anyone could chance course, no matter how wounded. But now there might be a chance. Hm, I remember Nick speaking of a floating city made of stolen boats, and I think it included slaves too?

The thing is, even in real life, slaves had to be "broken", usually through the inflicting of pain. My "slave" character is not yet really resigned to living as a slave and every time the slavemaster drags in someone new--which is more or less daily--then the riot starts anew. Noisier than most towns, in fact. There must be a dozen or so in there now, though of course newcomers to the game fall asleep pretty fast in such circumstances.

Ah yes, a city of boats, a city of men wearing skirts (and presumably women wearing trousers?)...and that only because a skirt was the first thing one of his charries picked up. An endless list of inventive ideas. I miss Nick.

Yeah he was that two, but he was mostly just bad for the game. IMHO floating cities and men in skirts and interesting forum posts don't quite make up for that.
