lol. Yeah, I think he did.

I think there is a misunderstanding

Well, that's what I took it as too...to be honest a lot of his posts aren't very clear. And I still kind of take offense at what seems to be a desire to nerf vehicles, which is like I said something I usually only see in people who don't have them themselves. Just like everyone without iron wants to make iron less powerful or easier to get. I was like that myself when I first joined.

Meh, you can do it in a vehicle, so why worry about foot

*crosshair has many vehicles... *

THANK-YOU Dust Puppy. It was quite clear what I was saying, Marian. You seem a little too eager to flame. And when did I say anything about "crippling vehicles"?

Let's just consider what makes sense. You can't work on projects while you're driving in real life, so how does it make sense to do it in a game that tries to imitate real life? My suggestion has nothing to do with whether or not my characters own vehicles. I'm merely comparing the game mechanics to reality. In reality, people walk while accomplishing tasks all the time, but they don't while driving. That's all I'm saying, and there's no need to get offended or scared that the programmers will take away your precious ability to manufacture weapons while driving.

And Marian, I'm sorry that grammatically correct sentences confuse you.

I see people do it all of the time, and it scares me. Drivers tapping away on laptops, putting on mascara, people shaving, and who knows how many other things. If it can be done, people have done it. Besides, in Cantr many vehicles can hold more then one person, with all of them "driving". Vehicles act as locations, while on the road has no specific location. Therefore, it is very likely impossible to make this change with the system set up as it is. I doubt any changes of this type will be made in the near future.

In a car or van with several people it makes sense that some of them can work. Admittedly one of them should be driving, but that has been discussed before and would be a massive change for little benefit I can see..

Cantr is a society simulator.
Not a Real Life simulator.

Some features are there to balance it out.
Vehicles are hard to make as it is.
Enabling people to work while walking will reduce their effect even less.
And as mentioned earlier, projects are currently location bound.

You can do something while walking - read ;) And even write :( I do in RL lots of reading while i walk, but i never write while walking, and i walk a lot. So you can talk, hunt, read/write while walking. Isnt this enought for journey? And if there is no-one around the journey is annoing. In RL. Why it shouldnt be annoing in Cantr? Just find a good companion (or pair/several of them) and do something fun on the way ;) There can be a lot of games played on the road in pairs, etc. Or are you munchkin so much, that you wish to do PROJECTS while walking? This is social game. Enjoy.

Some people take things WAY too personally on this forum. I am sorry to whoever I offended by making a suggestion. Anyway, if it's too hard to program, then it's too hard to program. That's what this board is for, to make suggestions and to see if they're feasible. So if anyone feels they need to repeat how bad of an idea it is, go right ahead ;)[/b]

Maybe there should be car accidents in Cantr then

Eyesnap, if you haven't got it yet, however illogical it is, the whole program is set up on the basis that projects take place in a particular location. A vehicle is a location, but a person walking passes through new locations constantly, thus it's impossible without entirely (probably) redesigning the game to do things while walking. Read the "What do Cantrians look like" thread, and consider that they need all their limbs for walking, but not for driving.

Peanut said it. It gives more advantage to having a vehicle. Want to work while traveling, invest in a vehicle. Until then, suck it up.

A bike is easy to make. And then you an travel faster, carry just as much, and work on projects at the same time.

Or if nothing else build a wooden cart. Or a boat. See, there are several easy IG solutions that don't involve 'nerfing' vehicles.

And do people in reality work while sleeping? Should we make it so that projects only progress if the player happens to be logged in during the tick?

Like several people have already told you (and then either been ignored or given an overly touchy reply, almost as if you were taking legitimate criticism of your idea WAY too personally), some things have to be more about balance than "reality". The Cantr world only needs to be internally consistent, not an exact copy of RL reality. That would be disastrous to the game, even if it were possible.

Marian, I have already agreed that it is too hard to program. So why are you continuing? I'm not being touchy at all, unlike you who "take offense" to suggestions. I don't know why you keep saying "nerfing vehicles." I've never used those words at all, yet you're putting it in quotations like I have. I don't care if my suggestions aren't implemented. The whole concept of this forum is to put out IDEAS. Plus, I have duly taken the criticism, so I'm not sure why you're saying I'm ignoring people. And to answer your concern about balance vs reality, that's mostly what my suggestion was about. Whether you want to call it a society simulator or a real life simulator, you still have to deal with the fact that it's trying to imitiate society, which, probably to your surprise, exists in REAL LIFE! :o

And wichita, there's nothing for me to "suck up," I really don't care whether my character in an online 'society simulator' can do a task while walking. It was an idea, like I told Marian.
