Before I say anything else on it, it would be very difficult to get access to magic in Cantr.
You would need first a spell book, made of not so common materials (gold, silver, diamond, silk thread, and ivory, about 75 grams of each) that require a rather complicated process of processing (smelt gold and silver together, then press it at a coin press into a book cover, then grind the diamond and ivory at a millstone, then bind it all together along with the silk thread).
Once a char actually manages to get an empty spell book, they need to either research new spells (taking an ingame year for the simplest spells) or transcribe spells from someone else's spellbook (taking 2 days for the simple ones).
Magic comes in one of three fields: offenceive, defenceive, or enchantment. The lowliest of the offensive spells would have a base damage of around 8, but be able to penetrate any non-magic/enchanted shield (still has a chance to miss), the defencive would function like holding a shield that can't be bypassed (even by magic) but would have relatively low defence counts. Then enchantment allows the penetrative or inpenetrable capabilities of magic onto any weapon or shield, but requires more ground ivory and diamonds and takes an expert half a year to complete.
The level of skills would greatly affect how much effect your spells would have, so that Expert does a full 20% more than awkward.
Magic would add new goals to old chars, and elevate magician activity above the level of emoting.

The developers seem to have made it pretty clear that magic is not something they really want to add to the game. I can understand why too. It would be pretty hard to add magic into the game. Especially considering that the developers havn't even finished really developing all the stats and there effects yet. And the moment far to many things need to be done before we even think about crossing the line from possible stuff to impossible stuff.

Alright... I haven't really gotten to spend too much time looking at random staff posts... so I wans't sure even where to look for this one... and belive me, I tried. If the staff ignores it, I'm fine, if they put it wayyy on the backburner... that's a little cooler, and the most I ever really expected from it.
