Accomplishing Tasks While Traveling

Postby eyesnapped » Sun Jul 16, 2006 1:07 pm

Sorry in advance if this is posted elsewhere. I think it would be nice to be able to do some projects while walking, such as whittling a tool. Obviously you wouldn't be able to farm or build machinery, but just like people in the real world, the people of Cantr should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Many apologies for the extremely over-used cliché.

But no running with scissors! (You couldn't walk full speed if working on a project.) Honestly I think the trouble is about the location. If you are in a vehicle, things inside the vehicle stay still even though the world is moving past.

It's true that there is no logic in being able to manufacture a shovel while riding a bike, but not while walking, but one must accept the game mecchanics.

lol And then you would have a bunch of locked private walking boots clogging the vehicles list. No thanks. Unless it's made possible to carry light vehicles.

I was thinking mostly about walking, mainly because it takes so long to get anywhere. It would be nice to work on building or repairing a shield while your character has nothing else to do anyway.

We can currently work on projects while driving vehicles, which is not possible in the real world (despite some people's best efforts to the contrary), so I think not being able to work while you walk is a fair trade-off.

I understand what you're saying Doug, but don't you think it should be reversed? People driving have the benefit of going faster, so they shouldn't also have the benefit of getting tasks done. Conversely, there should be SOME kind of benefit to walking - i.e. being able to sharpen a knife or something. It's quite possible in the real world, and like you said, it would be very difficult to do that in the real world while driving a vehicle.

I want jet boots so my chars can fly between towns while sewing a fur bikini.

And, plus, if we ever get alcohol we can fly drunk and upsidedown.

:D

Consider jet boots officially added to the suggestion list as a new vehicle.

Yes to this suggestion! Not the one for walking and doing stuff, but the flying one!

YAY!
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

lol. Yeah, I think he did.

As for Doug's post...you can sleep while driving a car in Cantr too, so I don't see what your point is. :D

Seriously though, why should there be a 'benefit' to walking? Seeing that it's something any one hour old newspawn can do without any effort, gettign from point A to point B should be enough of a reward. "Conversely" there should be plenty of benefits to having a vehicle, considering all the work involved. I'm assuming you've never built your own vehicle though, since you're so eager to cripple them.
