I'm sure the results of this poll are skewed even more than most, by the fact that most forum users are the dedicated players. I think if you're going to be the slave master, you'll find a lot of sleeping slaves.
And if you want more new players, and such players immediately get their chars inducted into servitude, they are not likely to keep playing. (but there again, those chars will presumably be looked after at least basically, rather than standing around starving.)

I am willing to enjoyably roleplay any situation my characters find themselves in, including slavery.

I would play a slave if the enslaver had good RP
One of my characters has also already had a slave. He was a town leader working inside with the other town leader, some revolutionary guy came in and hit him and insulted him, so my leader and the other one locked the door, renamed him, and put him to work. No other characters ever knew.

He eventually got killed because he was annoying

But the good thing was that he RPed his new role, and we RPed back, so it was better than just locking some sleeper up and telling him to work. If one of my characters found themselves in a similar situation I would definately RP it. Slavery may not be very nice but this is a society simulator after all, and slavery has been part of human societies throughout history.

A few of my characters have things in common with slaves of course, I've played a few in near slave positions but only one true slave. I think I did alright with her, I did get kudos for actually playing the roll from the slave master's player.

Hey what's wrong with:
submissive sluts

They can be fun

Seriously a couple of my charries would have done anything to secure the safety of their loved ones, and a couple of them grew up in regimes that were near enough slave labour for newspawns, under the guise of earning citizenship that never came...

Hmm, maybe your characters should get about more. There are now several slave communities in Cantr, mostly in relatively out-of-the-way towns in the mountains and similar. This is an effect of the rambo-dragging possibility. The largest I've seen so far has about 6 or so slaves indoors. And no, I've not created such a community myself, but I am playing a captured slave at the moment.

This is Cantr's major "growth industry" at present, and may well in time become what many newcomers to the game first experience. Obviously the slavemasters find getting any work done somewhat tedious.

Actually I think there's a lot of slavery in Cantr right now, except the masters are called 'employers' because I guess that's better PR for their business.

The only thing is all this slavery seems voluntary...plenty of people seem perfectly happy to stand in a silent building all day and work for raw carrots.

Well, some people do work to help their town. There's tons of real small towns where people help each other out to build the community, or used to anyway.

Personally, I've had guys do communal work to further their political carreers, but a lot of people want to build a powerful town, too.

I suppose Cantr slavery is impossible outside of a boat or building, though, unless one group controls a large area.

I'm not really talking about small towns...several of my chars live in them, and do things just to help out all the time. IMHO places like that are more interesting then a lot of the bigger cities I've seen, like Drojf and Doriskom. (Of course I've also seen small towns I have no interest in helping at all, because they're completely dead and you don't even get a sense of community in exchange for your work...even the person you're helping can't manage two words of conversation every other day. :()

But if the owner of a business in a big, apparently thriving city is asking you to go on a long gathering trip or stand inside for days refining iron, you'd think they could manage to pay you. I mean, they seem to have no problem with other people paying them for the work you did.

In my experience, there are many forms of slavery.

There is the master who works his slaves with threats of torture or death hanging over their heads if they do not do exactly what he asks...

There is the slave who willingly does everything that someone says because they feel that they are threatened even though there is no such threat at all...

There is the slave who has a true relationship with their master. They work together to meet objectives set by the master and the slave is rewarded (and punished justly) as they deserve.

I wouldn't mind rp'ing a slave if it is rp'd correctly. *shrugs* I've done it before in various other games.

I wouldn't mind it...

But if I was working under threats I'd try to find a way to escape (I only have one character, so all of my characters would therefore act the same). Right now I do resource runs to a town three to five days journey away for the sake of loyalty to my hometown...
