Who Am I Whispering To Again?

Postby Maelstrom » Mon Jul 10, 2006 1:30 am

Having the name of the person you're about to whisper sweet nothings to (or a plot to kill the town leader to) on the same screen as the actual talking would be a great help, and a very minor change.

I've whispered the wrong thing to the wrong person after clicking on the wrong bubble for a private chat on the name list more than once, and it seems having their name on the page with the talk window would go a long way to alleviating that.

Yes! Dude! Please!

Similar helpful information would be your current load when picking things up.

The maximum amount you can take is 54700..

Isn't helpful since I have no idea why my personal load is. Both these would be quite helpful.

Wonderful suggestion :D
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

I like that you can mess up and talk to the wrong person. It makes for interesting situations that I doubt that people would role play into (or it would seem really fake and forced) if you can see who you are whispering to on that screen.

Player error may make Cantr interesting as a whole, but for the player who makes the error, it's just a huge pain. It's not a feature, it's an inconvenience. And inconveniences repel new players.

Well, and on top of that... in reality, would you really whisper something to the wrong person?

Yes please. I thought it was just me who whispered in the wrong char's ear. Yes too, to the max pick-up amount if that's not too difficult.

Did you just say what I think you said? Cantr would assume I want to pickup all I can carry? THAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL!

Miss communication happens all the time, info getting to the wrong ears and what not. Haven't you ever said something to the wrong person over the phone?

Several of the funnest role play situations that I've been in were just trying to fix a player error on my part without going to the “OOC: sorry, pretend that didn't happen” easy out. Whispering to the wrong person is one of those errors that I think improves the game overall. These things happened more often when I was new to the game and really got me hooked to the game as I was trying to solve my self inflected problems.

Yes, miscommunication does happen... but this isn't talking over the telephone (which, no, I haven't done that). Information usually gets to the wrong ears by methods other than you directly telling someone that shouldn't know.

This is walking up to a person, or leaning in towards a person you know fairly well (visually as one can as a Cantrian), and whispering. Most likely, you wouldn't walk up to Joe King of Numbered Days and whisper to him that you're planning his demise. Nor would you walk up to one of his faithful guards and say such a thing. You'd be very careful (which this is where clicking the right name ought to come into play, though there are easy mistakes to make even so) as to who you walked up to to tell.

Suzy Prittermier does not look the same as Jeff Jeffety Jeff, so why would you accidentally whisper something meant only for Suzy's ears to Jeff? In reality you'd have visual cues (as well as spatial) as to who you're talking so closetedly to, and I think by putting their name on that page, it would be a way to give us some of that visualization that Cantrians don't really have so much of.

Just the whispering, or the current load on the pick up page as well? :D
