Prefered Programming Languages?
Just wanted to know which programming languages we prefer. Me? I don't have one yet, well probably because I haven't tried learning some of them yet, but out of the web programming languages I learned so far, I'd have to say CSS. I may add a poll later, once I get a list of programming langauges, so I don't leave any out.

For me it depends on the particular application area. So here goes:
User apps: Java
Embedded apps: C
Web Apps: JSP with Java
Knowledge Representation: logic programs and/or OWL
simulations: Matlab
I guess my preferences are a direct result of my education and programming style.

AMOS (basic from Amiga), and assembly language of Motorola MC68040 under Amiga OS 3.1
ACE Basic was good too... It compiled basic code to assembly language first, and then just assembled that code.
Someone wrote about machine code... Do you mean that you use just numbers, not assembly language?

You'll appreciate that these replies are tongue in cheek. The subject line said "preferred" not useful/practical, etc.
I started with a Nascom 2. 1k of useable memory! When you have those restrictions, you use numbers, yes.
When I'd added memory, ( I eventually got up to 48k, k note, none of this mega stuff,) I wimped out and used assembler, which I must admit, made things easier.

I actually wrote a long text based game in Oric Extended Basic, even saved it on tape LOL
It will be festering in a landfill somewhere - it was 22 years ago!
The Oric Atmos was way better than the Spectrum!

Wow and I thought that 10 years ago, 400 mhz and 256mb ram was good.. (mind you that was the computer I had up until a year ago.. upgraded to 3,400 mhz, 1,028 mb ram, 512 mb graphics card and 1 terrabyte of space.
quite a shock playing games on a ... good computer.
And yes, I still play Cantr... I'm strange, aren't I!!)

First computer I got was C=64 with 64k memory. It was so low for some things... I tried to write program in basic. Very simple database, but with rather big database, and it ran out of memory very fast. My fist Amiga has 512 kb, very soon expanded twice, and my last Amiga computer had 64 MB. For most things I wanted to do it was enough. Especially with 3GB hard drive.
