Well... If that VIVA belongs to yesterday game, when the Azurri beat the poor australians with an unfair penalty kick at minute 92+...

Surely you have to be...

Did you know that most of Germany is in the Eastern Hemisphere?

Yep, I did. What's your point?

It was no surprise for me. Spain haven't reached quarters since 1950.
Seems to be a Ripley's Believe it or not, but it's true.
A pity for that.

I thought we were eliminated in quarters by Korea in Korea-Japan? :P

Their time was 2 years ago, and they are now a declining force. When your top 2 strikers are Koller and Baros...

Most overrated team... EVER!

I was, however, surprised it was Ghana and not the US. All credit to the Ghanians though...

Name a beter midfielder in there group than Nedved and a better goalkeeper than Cech. I don't know how you can call a team that has reached two semi finals and one final in major competitions during the last 16 years overated.

America are overated and I'm not surprised at all that an african team bettered them. Africa is becoming a big force in football right now, hence why they have a better coeficient and therefore more teams in the competition than North America.

I've since forgotten, but I'm bemused that a Western nation is in the Eastern Hemisphere

America overated, hmm? Well they certainly didn't provide any defense to that arguement this world cup. But I don't think they performed so sorely from a lack of talent. Key players just didn't play like they were capable of doing and we didn't get the chemistry and more importantly the finishing capability that we saw in 2002. I whole-heartedly believe that America can and did field a 2nd round worthy roster, they just played awfully.

But the winning Ghana goal was just another absurd penalty kick call. They seem to be having a lot of those this world cup... :x

Just one more thing to blame the Brits for.

Another thing which bemuses me: my local church is several centuries older than the USA, and on the whole more agreeable too.

I'm sure you will admit that America don't deserve to be in the top ten teams in the world in fifa rankings. You can't tell me that isn't overating America.

Me too, but apparently there are East and West hemispheres as well, divided by the Greenwich Meridian.

Seeing as the Greenwich Meridian is just a line of latitude arbitarily chosen to be 0 degrees that runs through Greenwich Observatory, I don't think of the East/West hemispheres as proper hemispheres. The North/South hemispheres are dictated by the Earths North/South axis, which isn't arbitary, so I think is better than an East/West hemisphere.

No, they're not top 10. But I would put them hovering around 15th - 18th. In other words, capable of making a bid for the second round. And on any given day, I think the Americans are capable of pulling off an upset to one of the top 10 teams.

Not England.
