Animals

Postby Ash » Fri Jan 02, 2004 8:19 pm

I was thinking, why cant animals have babies? Like a sheep gives birth to a lamb and so forth.

These animals would yeild less than a full grown animal, and what about an age for animals? Like the younger/older the less things to yeild from them, and when they are middle aged and fat you could kill them.

It would be good, but it could wait until there is a way to domesticate animals...

Technically, the animals do breed, but we had a problem with the algorithms in the past, resulting in thousands of some animals in places. They should be breeding again, but slower, and its likely not noticed due to all the killing, heh.

Breeding should come back and if there is an overpopulation issue then either the staff can fix it or the players should learn to deal with them somehow.

I also think that the animals should be individual not grouped. IE if thier are 6 cows I should see:
:) cow
:) cow
:) cow
:) cow
:? cow
:( cow

That way you can kill more then one
you should also be able to help them IE one should be able to give an animal X amount of healing food and restore them, same with helping other people.

I like g1asswalker's idea and it it something that I have said before. You could also later only milk that one cow, or drag that one cow, or name that cow. Plus, with it all seperated characters can claim ownership of certain animals etc...

This has made me wonder something. Okay so technically they do breed. But, are animals in game diff sexes? :) I kind of wonder this because I see so many places only want to leave two animals. If they do have sexes, I'd like for there to be a way to tell. :) lol. I want to know if those two coons are both male..or not..this way I can uhh figure out a way to leave a male and female so they DO indeed end up multiplying at some point. LOL

Im assuming its not quite that complex?
Suppose it could be an idea tho'. :P

None of that is defined yet but it would be a really good idea.

It would probably be simpler to just have the animal's gender listed on the animals list suggested by glasswalker.

You know what would be fun...

Parrots.

They could fly around repeating things that they heard.

That might actually work. . . If you make animals individuals, they could move around and have their own histories, so that parrots could recite what they've heard, bears could attack people who've attacked them in the past, and possibly other nice things.

This also brings me to: Can animals still attack you whilst travelling?

you should be able to domesticate the farm animal types. like horses, sheep, cows, goats, oh... chickens! we should have chickens.

horses could be domesticated and ridden, cows milked, sheep wool harvested, goat milk, and chicken eggs or chicken for dinner. a person could make a fence or paddock/pasture, with a lock if they want, and put animals in there.

And why do horses attack people? they are NOT preditors.

:)

oh, chicken coops, and cages for rabbits.... give them their own listing like

"small buildings" or "farm attatchments"

you build a "barn", and then can build "farm attatchments" like pastures, chicken coops, rabbit hutches, dry storage,

maybe a pond to stock fish in? that would be cool too.

ok, so i am crazy.
