Potholes and road decay

Postby Doug R. » Tue Jun 20, 2006 1:44 pm

There are currently expressways running through areas of the game that have seen massive population declines since dynamic spawning was implemented. Shouldn't roads -slowly- decay over time? Maintaining them should be a minimal effort, but if left unmaintained, they should rot down to paths eventually.

Everything else in the game, except notes, is going to decay, so why not?

I'm inclined to agree, and I like the rationale, that as areas decline the roads would go into disrepair.

So do I, but like building and vehicle decay, this will not be implemented until a means of repairing the decay is available

I'd hate to see your To Do list...

Any idea if a universal system for dealing with decay and repairing will be designed and implemented across the whole of Cantr?

I like it. I like anything that encourages governments to stay on their toes and take a little more interest in their town.

But no oil required please, it's hard enough to get as it is. Maybe some sand, because it needs more uses anyway, and a shovel and a little time?

Also, and this is more related to building roads than repairing, but can we please get a use for the wheelbarrow?

Oh, cool! Guess I never saw that thread.

Now to make a wheelbarrow and go find a road to upgrade...

If all of these things are going to start decaying, it should be easier to repair decayed items. I mean would a bone knife in real life really take a day to repair? No. Does it take a day to make a stone hammer? No. So if a Cantr day is not really the equivalent of a real life day, why after like 300 days is a brand new crowbar all but decayed.

If we don't watch out, all anyone will be doing in Cantr is repairing items.

Yep, I'm looking forward to the time when instead of building my new boat or starting a war or perhaps trying to overthrow/shore up a leadership I can let my tools dissapear into dust, stop repairing my house and go fill in potholes.
Yuk yuk yuk.

Well, if they follow Sociologist's suggestions (AND THEY SHOULD!), repairs will take up a lot less time, and require a small amount of resources instead. This would give towns a reason to keep production and trade going, and extra time to do it with.

Oh, and about crowbars, I think the real question should be, why does a new crowbar take over 3 days to repair?

I hate this idea.

See all my previous arguments against item rot to see why.
