Yeah! Put the names back! I love them!
But make them changable. And make all other names changable too.
To change a name you need to fulfill a project. Rebuild house, put up new townsigns, repaint ship, repaint car, plastic surgury person. The project should take about 10% resourses, same tools and 50% time. After that the name is changed for all, but it is offcourse dynamic. A person who do plastic surgury is once again "a man/whoman in his/her..."
This i think should change to. Age isnt the most significant thing you notice about a person. Colour or ethnicity is. I think it should be "an english man in his...", "a spanish man in his..." etc

I like the dynamic naming. Maybe it's just because most of my characters grew up with it. When people ask the name of your town you can give a first impression of the town too.
Q: Where am I?
A: This is Seria Sol, the gateway to the Syof Mountains at the foot of Sol pass.
or
A: Your in Blueberry Hill, but you might not want to stay long, things could go sour here soon.
I think it creates more freedom in the game to shape the world around you. A lot of people just haven't taken advantage of that freedom. That's just my opinion on it.

With all due respect for the cool names Jos came up with... I like the way it is now.
I don't mind the fact that I'm looking at Stony Hills instead of Omeo (north). Looking at the resources and the terrain, that name is appropriate for that location. I think I get more of an idea about where I am from that name than Omeo (north). And that name has a rustic feel to it, so maybe people spawning in Stony Hills will have a better sense of identity thant people spawned in Omeo (north). If people make names that are appropriate for a place, then I have no problem with it.
Everyone will find out the name of a place sooner or later. Someone will tell you, or there will be a note, or if people there are really on top of things, there will be a sign. It's not going to prevent you from figuring out the name.
And if you really don't like the fact that ignorant newbies have renamed Cantr City to Coruscant, then kill their characters and rename it.

It is for the VAST MAJORITY of cantr locations, in which people have never settled. Do you know how hard it is to map a place without location names? Do you know how BORING it is?
I'm not dead; I'm dormant.

I agree that some of the old names were cool, but put them back and no one will ever call a town anything else. I think places could have more of a sense of 'history' everyone seems to want if their names actually meant something, like named after the person that founded it or a major event or someone everyone loved who died. In RL nobody named towns or countries just by picking some random syllables because they sounded cool...

Thats a bunch of crap. Karnon Forest was renamed as well as many other places even before the names were taken out.

Wow! I thought I was the only insane one who didn't like the location amnesia!!
I have a character that is travelling an empty island, and she found some maps, but every map tells her a different name of the location, it's just so confusing..
I have an idea... Can it be an option for the players, whether they want to have unnamed locations or keep the locations' original names but still have the dynamic naming option? Is it possible?
