Food et Water

Postby Missy » Mon Aug 11, 2003 8:53 pm

First of all I'm wondering about liquids...

I remember a long time ago some water had floated around in the tirqci area in some peoples inventories.

First I'm wondering how many of you feel we should have liquid in the game?

Second I'm wondering if we willlll ever have liquid in the game. Like when weather is implemented - if it rains will we be able to use barrels to catch water in?
And will we actually be able to drink it or maybe even HAVE to drink it to survive....

Numerous times people have mentioned wanting to have wine and beer. I don't know if these ideas were ever implemented? If they have been, giving us water would open up the game for other ideas as drinks

I earlier mentioned the cacao bean. I would really like to see this implemented, and for our characters to have uses for it.
Refer here for facts etc..
http://www.nvogue.com/nVogueFoods/Choco ... colate.htm

We would dry them, grind them....

Eventually it could be used for making cocoa, chocolate itself, and later for cakes or whatever....

If water could make it into the game. We would then have use for oranges and lemons too..
And while I'm thinking about all this, we should be able to make apple juice and cider as well. And tea leaves should also be introduced.

Drinks could have advantages- or simply be a necessity.

How many of you would rather have liquid as a necessity for your chart to survive?

How many of you would rather have liquid as a healing food and when mixed with something perhaps its healing power is greater than just water alone

Or should some drinks have healing purposes, and others not? Which ones, and why?

Or..should drinking remain as simple as just plain old water?

I'm not into liguids for survival unless there's a long lead time and it clear which towns will have water and in what quantity. Whouldn't want to wake up one morning and find the town dying of thirst.

But how about and expresso drink that adds minutes?

A vegimite drink that speeds production?

A carb drink that speeds travelling?

While adding water as a need could rivers be added. I'd assume that every town where people can be born into a river runs threw it if there not already next to a lake or that wells would produce water for the population.

Navicable rivers would be a neat alternative to walking and land vechicles.

Water should be a neccesaty, but I like the idea of power up drinks to helo with stuff. That could be implemented with foods too, like chocolate or something.

I think different drinks should have different effects like David suggested, and that if water was introduced as a survival need that spawn locations should have a water source.

I think water should be included as it's quite a major factor when people try to settle in places, but I know some of the arguments against it and a a result I don't think it's a major priority to put in.

The idea is good, but most places should have water.
Perhaps people could drill for a well in locations where they don't have water?

Orange juice and so on could be healing drinks.

I like the idea of producing alcohol...the problem is that is must have some sort of effect.

For now, I don't see liquids as a necessity. Getting enough food is hard enough in some places. And if you needed water more often, I doubt anyone could cross the deserts anymore.

I do see how it could be used in weather. After being exposed to rain for too long, you'd lose a bit of strength (health).

Though now that I think of it, water as a healing food wouldn't be too bad. It just deserves a bit more thought, I guess.

I'm using this topic so that I do not have to start another one with a similar notion. There are several people ranting about alcohol in one town. It is not in the game at present, therefore I don't think it should be mentioned in the game. What do others think? It's like when Jos told us not to mention things that didn't exist, like cups, and kites.

Would that be a bad thing, or unrealistic?

Primitive cups can be made by carving fruits hollow like pineapples... papayas maybe? Coconuts are already hollow. If containers are needed to carry water, make sure they're not impossibly technical.

I always wondered why you would pump water if you didn't need it to drink.

Then I found out why. It didn't seem like a very good reason.

I like the idea of adding water as a necessity, and even better I like the idea of juices and teas being healing foods. It could give way to better uses for ovens (boiling water for tea) and some cool new tools that could be made out of simple things. For example, you wouldn't use an iron juicer because it would rust. Stone would be good. You might even be able to use the oft-neglected mortar and pestle to grind up tea leaves or something.

It would be cool, but not quite as cool as some of the other changes mentioned before. Like windows.

After healing foods are phased out, herbal teas might be a good form of medicine.

And at present I'm against the idea of chars having to drink. Yes it would be nice for realism, but how much water is actually in the game? (In fact it seems like water was recently taken out of some places that had it before, QF for example had theirs just up and disappear.)

So for starters water would have to be implentented in more places. Not deserts obviously (though maybe there's an oasis somewhere), but you should be able to pump it in some places, and much more quickly in towns next to lakes and oceans. Coastal towns may need to build a purifier or filter (cloth, sand, stone and wood, NO iron required), but all that's assuming Cantrian oceans are salty. Also juice would have to be available and serve the same purpose, in order to give new uses to former healing foods like apples and grapes.

I think the point was about alcohol anyway.

And no I don't think they should be talking about alcohol, as their is none, just like Fidel Castro shouldn't have been "smoking a cigar"
