I must side with the folks who agree that such chatter about in-game events should be best left out of the forums until WELL after an event occurs, if even then at all.
I've got a character on Karnon, who has no clue who the blackrocks are, has not yet heard about this so-called war, and is essentially merely exploring the island and confirming the map she found is correct and accurate.
Thus, if I met these near-mythological TBR folks (at least a demi-godly group of demon-blood evil-doers the way their initials are thrown around on the forums lately) I'd have no reason to fear them. I'd just wander away, as this character is a bit of a loner who explores and is writing a novel about her travels.
I feel I can keep the OOC knowledge about the war out of her in-game head, but even avoiding reading the forums, there is enough chatter mixed in the threads that ARE read by Nate-the-player, it's getting difficult NOT to form an opinion, and that makes things more difficult keeping OOC/IC split. Regardless of my effort, I still fear a bit of OOC influence will somehow sneak into how I portray that character, which I think we all want to avoid.
