Jack, don't insult me by bringing up points I've already defeated. It's rather annoying.
Do you know which state produces the most scientists in the entire US? Utah. Do you want to know what religion approximately 80% of those scientists belong to? Mormonism. Not atheism. Just because God made it doesn't mean we aren't supposed to find out why he made it, how he made it, and every possible use for it.
I say again, don't insult me by bringing up point I've already defeated. It's simply bad form.
When I talk about prophecy, I'm not talking about predictions, i.e. 'well, the numbers all line up, the likelihood that big business is going to change its methods in advance is pretty much zero, therefore this will happen.', I'm talking about 'there's no physical evidence for or against this, but God said it will happen so therefore it will happen.' And they're never wrong.
Not everything the Old Testament teaches still applies. Christ raised the bar on a lot of things when he came. There was a dream that I think John had (I can't remember who it was, but someone had it) that literally pretty much told him 'you can eat pigs now' among other animals. Less directly it also meant to start teaching Gentiles the ways of God as well as Jews. The Jews had failed their role as Gods chosen people, and though I'm not sure if that's why the teachings spread, that might be it.
The Lord's path is one of balance. Ultra right-wings and ultra left-wings are all insane.

However, if all of these people have 'felt' this divine force, but many of them are from completely different religions and backgrounds, what does that say about this divine feeling? I'm not trying to disprove anything, because that would be futile and naive, but I am curious to all of your response on this.
EDIT: Not bad for a 2000th post.
Maybe its the same god...
I hope you remember me when you die... "Oh, Dee was right. There IS a God!"
You're not the only one that believes that...
Just to be clear on something, I know that I am going to hell. Why? Because I'm not perfect. I'm not a saint. I do mistakes. But I also know that eventually I will go to heaven, because I'm a believer.
Some people might stay in hell for the rest of their lives (or deaths.. It's confusing) and some will go to hell for a while, then go to heaven. [/quote]
The thing about your religion, is that half the things you believe in doesn't make any sense. Time!!?? What time!!?? The afterlife never ends! Time is only something we have because we live on Earth with a limited amount of time to live. Let's say you were half bad and half good, so half of your afterlife is in the bad place? When do they decide its half? Or if yoi pay for your sins by being in the bad place for a certain amount of 'time', then at the end of your time you go to heaven? So eventually everyone goes to heaven whether they were bad or good, and then stays there for all eternity? The thing a lot of people like abuot Mormonism is that it makes sense...
Mormons don't have anything against the existence of aliens, but I don't believe much about actually finding them.
Now, if no one made god, and he just is, then why can't the universe just be also?
That's something you'll have to ask him yourself. (if you get to meet him

If only we had a church like the EARLY early EARLY church.
Looking for Moses' eye for an eye? His rules were very confusing...I know, I read them.
I know I've said this before, but the Mormons have Joseph Smith tranlations for the Bible. As well as footnotes! Footnotes are the best!!!
Who actually follows these rules?
New rules have been given for the latter days.
Err.. We don't eat pigs as well... And it has proven that it does get you dieseases.
Not when it is well cooked, processed, and checked for disease. In the olden days they couldn't stop the parasites, now they can. Just because it was bad then doesn't mean it is now, like has been said by Seko.

Yeah!
I think this topic and discussion is interesting. It doesn't need to end... the only problem is that it is time consuming.
..and when I'm reading and making this post, every 20 minutes or so there's another couple posts to read.

You know what? I've said everything I've needed to say. Since nobody under the age of, say, 20, has apparently read anything that I wrote, I'm going to stop responding to Pie, Nalaris, or Josh, if not everyone.
Pie specifically has utterly disregarded anything I or almost everyone has said, and seems to me to just be saying the same things over and over again for his own solitary benefit.
I quit the thread. I've said what I wanted to.

I'm not trying to insult anyone. I stand by my stance that science and religion have no place with each other. I'm not saying that a good Christian can't be a good scientist. What I'm saying is that god cannot be included when trying to use scientific methods to solve life's mysteries.
I don't know what's insulting about that, but if you're annoyed by my opinion, then... I don't know what to tell you.
And don't you religious types patronize me by telling me that I'll have to ask god my questions 'if I get to meet him.' I reject your assumption that I'm going to go to hell, because you don't even know if hell exists! Besides, why would a merciful, loving god punish someone infinitely for finite 'sins'?
Pie how do you know that judgement day is coming, anyway? How could you possibly know that? Don't live your life in fear of what might happen to your soul. Live and love life. What's a bunch of talk about lakes of fire and devils going to accomplish? These are scare tactics that have been used by the church for centuries.

Pie is repeating the same things, over and over, in increasingly unintelligible posts. I do not have the energy to decypher what you write anymore pie, and even less to try and respond.
I may not agree with many people here, but at least I have been taking the time to try and read and understand what they write. All you seem to be doing, pie, is ignoring what anyone else says, and repeating whatever you seem to have got stuck in your head at that time. Discussion with you pie is just exasperating and frankly depressing.
Apart from pie's ravings, the only other thing I am constantly readin is Religious Propaganda. I have read numerous supposed statistics and examples from various people, which are totally unsubstantiable. I can not find the effort to contradict them anymore. Hopefully someone will, otherwise this thread is likely to descend further into the right-wing, Christian, Bible-Bashing propaganda machine it is turning into.
If the debate possibly returns to the slight level of maturity it previously had, I may well dive back in. Until then, au revoir peeps.

Ok.... I Kind of understand.
There has been an absence of pie sometimes. I am a bit.... conefusing... to say the least. But if you would read it, and think about it, I think you would understand it.
But, I have been repeating things, becous YOU have been repeating things. And.... I'm to lazy to search up a new defence.
Also... Pleas direct me to the things I have ignored(Pleas, only one at a time....)

Okay, if you've said all you want to, bye. But for the record, I read every post.
Jack, I'm not annoyed by your opinion, just annoyed that despite the fact that I proved that according to Mormon teachings God wants us to find out about the world and you're completely ignoring that! You'd be annoyed too if I ignored everything you wrote and just kept on restating the same defeated point over and over again. I know when I'm beaten and have been before. When I am, I drop it.
Jack, you're not going to Hell unless you know God exists and still work against him. You don't believe in God and therefore you cannot possibly go to Hell. If you go on a crime spree you won't be rewarded nearly as much as someone who didn't, but you won't go to Hell. Like Joshua said, Mormonism makes sense.
Judgment day may or may not be 'right around the corner', but it's obviously close. Several doomsday prophecies are coming true (wars and rumors of wars), and the worlds all set up for a series of natural disasters to shatter world economy and drive us all into the gaping maws of the four horsemen. The world is tense, any minute now Zion (America) and Israel (Israel) will go to war with the world, as prophecied. And sin has reached levels only seen in places that God leveled. The Devil is growing ever stronger in the world. Of course, if you don't believe it than you'll be reading it and thinking 'well this whole things bunk', but that's your problem, not mine.
I can't remember who insulted me because I couldn't understand his points, but I couldn't understand them because the English was terrible. It looked like you were translating a lot, so I assume it's a second language.

First of all, prophecies are bunk. They mean nothing. The end of the world is not coming, and if it does, it's going to have nothing to do with god's wrath. It's going to be a random comet or asteroid or something like that, if not a nuclear war started by religious bigots.
As for science and religion (again), I don't have a problem with religious scientists, but the idea of god cannot be included in scientific theories or hypotheses. Everything that happens here on Earth, and indeed througout the universe can be explained scientifically, or naturally without introducing the element of a supreme being. Maybe not now, or tomorrow, but everything has a scientific explaination. Although sometimes one has to look past the dogma that's in place in order to understand and accept certain aspects of science.
And what you're telling me about going to hell is according to Mormonism. How can you be sure that the Mormon stance is the proper one? How do you know that god doesn't send everyone who doesn't believe to hell? Because your book says so? Well, there are a lot of other books written about the same subject that say a lot of very different things. So, which one should we follow? The one that our parents taught us? The one that the zealots cram down our throats? The one that feels right?

Prophecies are not bunk. There have been a number of prophecies in the Qur'an and they came true. The first one I can think of is that God said that the biggest enemies for those who have found faith (He means Muslims) are the Jewish. And didn't that come true? Palestine and Israel.
The second one, well, they're a number of prophecies really... Are the ones concerning the day of judgement. Some signs tell us that the day of judgement is near... One of them is the men and women will dress and act and look alike, and another one is that nudity will be everywhere.
More signs to come are the sun will rise from the west, and the Qur'an will disappear.
One big prophecy everyone is waiting for now is the appearance of a man called Al-Mahdi Al-Muntazar (The awaited Al-Mahdi) will come and make wars against those who do not believe in Allah and will win them all, and Jesus will come back. That's when we can start worrying that the day of judgement is really close.
And the end of the world, like Jack said, does not have to be God's wrath... God made a reason for everything, and He may the world may end after a big nuclear war, or a big hurricane.
I hope you understood what I just said.

Every good prophecy is based on prediction (prognosis). Do you believe all those humbug prophecies which say about 2012 year, or about blood from your faucet?
