changes to Fishing Poles

Postby Marian » Fri Jun 02, 2006 5:45 am

I just realized you don't need string to make a fishing pole and thought that was kind of unrealistic, and that got me thinking about ways to improve them.

First of all, if you can get iron you should probably get string, so why not go all the way and make a suped up one that needs an iron hook, iron reel, and 10 grams of string?

This should catch a lot more fish then the one we have now, but to be fair their should also be a primitive fishing pole that catches less (but still more than the fishing spear) that's made with a stick and sinew and a bone hook.

And how about a cane pole made out of reed and sinew and bone too?

Also we need nets, but I know there's already threads about that.

I guess I am anxious about breaking it into parts like that because it complicates a tool that is already not very commonly made, from what I have seen. I think there is a little bit more fishing since RD upped the gathering rates, but it is still pretty sparse. In that case, it hurts game balance to make the tool more complicated. If we increase the rates more, it will mess up some plans we have for the near to distant future.

I like the idea of the cane pole. We are looking for some more intersting uses of reeds, to give some purpose to gathering it for those few locations that have it. :)

And yes, nets have been discussed, and hopefully will be implemented eventually. Hopefully sooner than later.

a net could be a tool like a spear or pole, just with a far superior gathering rate.

People use nets from the shore, so it shouldn't be a problem.

What kind of implementation did you have in mind which delays this?

Just wondering, what was wrong with fishing from boats?

Other than at the moment, there's no fish in the cantr sea, no problem.

However, everyone on staff has loved the idea of fishing from boats for a long time, and it's being worked on, and will someday be implemented. :D
Reality was never my strong point.
