Another thing I do not understand: Why Cantr Staff is always thinking players are proffessional trickers? Don't they have to consider players as fair ones, until some kind of violation to the rules is demonstrated?
Wilmer B.
The impression I get is the long term players can remember the days when they all cheated and tricked...
I have to admit was totally in favour untill I read Scuba's post... it is convceivable that in anreas where there is only a couple of spawn points you commit cantr Genocide... which is a scary IG possible conseqeunce...
Until something better, that does not involve someone having to read someone's events to make a subjective decision, is possible this still needs to be in place...

I have some concern with this because we should be trying to encourage players to be risk taking, whereas the message now being sent is that they are expected to be risk averse. Indeed, they are now penalized unless they are.
In the case of suicidal newspawns, the questions that should instead be asked are: Why are players letting their characters be suicidal? Is it a game balancing issue? With what aspect - character placement or character skills or what? People are here to enjoy the game. If they don't enjoy, it you cannot force them to. PD should not stand for "Prisons Department".
My thesis is that there is a clear link between certain areas and suicidal behavior. I don't recall ever seeing this behavior in my favorite areas. But in some other places it's weekly. So that's what should be looked at.

Weekly... more like daily....
One of my charcter's is in a forest but all the gathering slots are taking.
Consequence in the last 48 hours:
One spawn, steal and run,
One Spawn, hit and run and
One Spawn, steal and stay put to get killed (only they haven't been yet)...
I take your point, but every game has rules... My 9 year old son likes to play risk where he gets to defend and attack with 5 dice... doesn't mean I let him... he won't derive enjoyment from the game unless acheivement takes some patience...

Perhaps, but "long term players" (¿=GAC?) should consider the fact that newest players maybe are not as cheaters and trickers as they were. Not all the people are the same, and I don't want to be consider as a tricker when I am not.
Sadly, I am starting to understand that those ones that dictate the rules are 24x7 worried about what are players doing with their characters. And they do not get that it's a mission impossible: You can't manage a player's will. If he/she is a tricker, he/she will always be trying to get the best with less. If he/she is a fair player, this kind of rules affect him/her because of nothing.
Every game has its cheats & tricks. We all know that. If you choose to play a game in the "wrong" way, you are assuming that you're losing something. And it's just because the funny part of a game it's the experience you get while you're playing it.
The 40-day rule will probably take me, sometime in the future, a month and a half of that experience in Cantr. And why for? I still do not know.
Wilmer B.
ps. If a 40-day rule is set for the newbies ("a man on his twenties), why it is not applied to the oldest ("a man on his seventies" or even "a very old man") Maybe they have the same reasons as youngers to commit the feared suicide.

Many players do not read the forums here - so they are not aware of these discussions - as such, I think there should be some kind of more public disclaimer that the recent change is not intended to encourage the avoidance of possibly risky situations, or to enforce 'nice' game-playing.

Sorry, now I do realize some people are very, very addicted to Cantr, but I'm still not able to shed any tears over the thought of someone having to 'experience' the horrible, soul-shattering agony of spending a month and a half with 14 characters instead of 15.
Most of those characterss are probably barely above sleepers anyway! At least viktor has admitted that most of his are, and I bet most people who have that many do the the same thing. I'm trying really hard to imagine how a char can live a meaningful life with barely over 13 minutes a day, but I'm not able to. At least with one slot locked you can have 14 full minutes to devote to each of them, maybe that extra time will allow the left over ones to actually talk more than once a week.
Is silently farming carrots or gining cotton inside an empty building really so much fun that you're this angry thought of having all that excitement taken away?
IMHO the game would be massively improved if every single player were to lose five newspawns tomorrow. For the next month and a half some of the towns might actually wake up!

Yes, it is. Because that activity is lead to another, which my characater is waiting to do. Every action in Cantr is a piece of experience -If you don't feel that, why are you playing it?- I have entered into this game knowing it would be slow... So every little time is gold. The 40-day rule takes me that time of playing. In forty days my char could collect 44000 g of limestone, 10000 g of coal, 30000 g of stone... But NO HE CAN'TR, because of what? We still do not know.
If some areas have problems with "suicidal newspawns" (I still don't get exactly what does it means), PD should investigate and penalize those players who are tricking and cheating. But punish all the Cantr's players with a 40-days period without a reason, it's not a solution that will change the PD incapacity of doing a proper job.

woah.... hold on a sec there i must correct this right away. i gave an example of one char
i have 15 chars, 1 is by far not most, i really had to point this out
and as Wilmer mentioned every character will have uneventful borderling "boring" moments but they all lead to something and a lot can be accomplished in that 40 day time.

Oh I'm sorry viktor, I meant to say Mykeyrools and I was talking about this post, not your french guy:
I just get really frustrated by this (and also by the way Wilmer keeps acting like he thinks you won't be aloud to play Cantr period...)
People spawn too many chars and then they wind up sleeping or workign all the time because they only have enough minutes to properly play a handful of them...and I'm aware Cantr is a slow game and it takes a long time to work towards goals, but that doesn't explain why so many chars just stand there all te time and the only sign of life they ever show is switching to a new project. It's not like talking now and then makes you work any slower.
This is exactly what I'm complaining about! You're supposed to think of your chars as people, not gathering machines! Why are you even playing if it's just to watch a percentage bar go up?
But still, Wilmer, at least your saying your chars are 'waiting to do' something, which I guess means they have at least some kind of goal, I honestly thiunk you're in the minority there. It's so freaking stupid that I hardly ever have to pay any of my employees, they just spawn and ask for work and the only thing they're interested in after that is food. What's the point of that? They're not working towards anything and they might as well just let the char die. Forget the work, I'd do it myself and I'd happily pay someone just for talking to me while I'm doing it.
and no playing 15 interesting characters isnt possible, because even with 15 I`ve never had more than 4 that were really interesting thats what happens when you spawn mostly in forest.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Hold on there. I don't think HF ever said he chose to wipe out his characters for the mere sake of them not having the right skills or being in a bad place. He said he makes them suicidal to see how far he can get. A way to amuse himself and pass the time and test the characters around him. He also said he has only four main characters and has many empty slots ruling out the necessity of needing to kill them for stupid reasons like that. I think you ought to read his posts about that again before making an example out of him for reasons he doesn't use.
Sorry, I just felt that was a slightly injust statement towards him.
Isn't that the Sociologist anyway?

No? Phalynx wrote that, quoted him directly from the quote button on his post... But maybe you meant something else.. Sorry if I'm not sure what you mean..
