Everyone whines and complains about newspawn note thieves. Everyone wanted a solution. This is the solution.
It isn't going to kill even those who were actually playing the game "good" (good we'll say,) and died, to wait forty days.
Consider it taking one for the game and for your own enjoyment.
No offense to those who think this is going to make the game "goody goody," either, but I think you're sadly mistaken. I'm certainly not going to quit playing my characters as they are just because they might die and I might have to wait forty days to make a new one. I'm here for a long time, forty days or no.
Will it deter those who make newspawn note thieves just to be jerks? Well there are some people out there who do literally make an account and you'll look at it to find they've had over 30 characters killed in a 2 mo. period of time. Then there are those who e-mail the PD explaining they no longer have a desire to play a particular character because of time. So we kill it off for them only to discover a day later that the player made yet a new one. There are those who spawn a character and let it starve because it landed on an island/place the player dislikes, just so they can spawn a new one and hope it lands elsewhere rather than try to play it out or have it move elsewhere.
Some of the people that do that are right here on the forums.
Oh yeah. I've seen people spawn an entire account of 15 characters and they name them "Don't want 1, Don't want 2, Don't want 3, April showers, Don't want 4," etc.

requiring age for effective piracy?
i don't think so
i will reveal one of my previous pirates, Ramey Naey
she woke in siom, it was a busy town and she checked out the harbour only to find a siom deputy boat free for the taking, she then quickly grabbed some items and left. she checked every coastal town she crossed cleaning out food supplied and murdering anyone she could finish off standign there weak (yes she wreaked havok) one town she crossed there was a thief who cleasned out the town of it's food supply and boarder her ship then begged to be her slave then was informed it was a pirate ship. so they mascaraded as siom deputies, gaining trust and then cleaning out and assaulting right at their time of departure. unfortunatly her friend fell ill with sleeping sickness. now they had fun all the way to tircqi, she hopped out checked over the people found a weak woman and killed her, then began pillaging, even grabbed a massive stash of iron which would make any char disgustingly wealthy, but alas out of greed, even though she realised soeone had woken up, she ran back in to try for another grab and got locked in.
she died rotting in a tircqi prison
point? you don't need age to become a hellraising pirate. as a matter of fact if she wasn't so greedy i bet she'd have a raker and a full crew by now massacring coastal cities all over the english regions but realistically she got caught and died. lied about her age too to her captors for her elaborate story to survive and there was no rule back then, now she died, and i think she was under 25 and it would have been terrible to then have that slot locked but luckily this rule wasn't around back then.
great dose of "cantr crack"
her and timmy jaguar alike, in no way suicidal newspawns and they were trecherous from the day they spawned, no years of peparation or experience, they just did it.
again i need to restate that, i'm not saying this rule should be tossed, i'm just saying it's flawed and punishes even those who are in no way part of the suicidal newspawn problem which is why i think we really should get to use credits as i described in my last post for freeing up these locked slots

Can I ramble a bit too? Thanks.
People mention that you will act nicley to not not lose a character. Disregarding the insults that have been flung at those people, perhaps we should ask why people are killed for grabbing 2000 grams of onions and a bone shield?
Because there is no other alternative if they make it to the road, that's why. You can threaten them with death, and now that threat carries some weight. But that's all you can do. Teletype gets shot down, so it seems management don't want to make it easy to contact the next town on the road. And even if it was, a wakeful player could enter town one minute and be on the road again the next.
Now, there has been suggestions of implementing dragging on the road. Bludgeoning someone unconscious (making them drop stuff without killing them) has been suggested too. That would give some alternatives. I'd suggest city walls, but the thought of hordes of newspawns starving to death because the guy with the key fell asleep gives me shivers.
So, we're punishing the murder victims. Maybe we should encourage the murderers to not murder, too. Life was cheap from both ends of the sword before, and it still is from the non-pointy end.

Hey, I think dragging and knocking people unconscious and all that would be great too, but I'd still want them to keep locking character slots.
And maybe it's just Cantrian culture that the lives of idiot newspawns are considered cheap by more established people, but there's still no reason why it should be cheap to the newspawn.
Maybe it's cruel, but it still makes a lot more sense to kill someone over a bone shield than to die for one.
But like a couple of other people have said, I think this is gettign blown way out of proportion. Everyone's arguing about 'It'll cause more of this, and force players to do this, blah blah' but why not try waiting a couple months and seeing what actually happens?

because 2 of my chars will likely suffer this rule and soon, and it will be a month and a half for me to have over 13 chars again
*prints out a cantr page tosses it in the blender then injects it into his bloodstream with a dirty needle*
look what i had to do to get a cantr fix now
ok kidding that's extreem but you know what i mean
i'd have my french char killed by pd today but, fact of the matter is he will hit 25 in maybe 35 days so i should just have this obsessive compulsive papaya picking bear/boar/wolf hunter killed when he turns 25 just so i can shave off those 5 days because he really honestly can do nothng else, he only has an irn shield because his last friend had it and died from the animals. and my other char.. can't discuss without being crb

i'm not 100% sure if this is in response to the french char i spoke of but let me give mroe detail
he is alone nobody else is alive around him, he cannot collect wood to build a shelter to hide in, and duck out to hunt, nobody will come and stay because they are also half dead and being beaten by the animals, there is no rp value in this in any way shape or form, i am very honest and literal in saying he can do absolutly nothing but collect papayas while he hunts in futility. he takes more damage than he can heal and teefore his death is inevitable goint ot happen in this, this is and as such with this 40 day rule in place i stated i would have him killed today if i wouldn't be punished simply because he may quite possible be killed maybe ever 1 days short of turning 25. and this is why i said it and why i would have him killed early but i cannot be certain he will die from those animals before he turns 25 and it is too risky.
before anyone suggests it, the option of moving to a different town is not feasable because, they are just as bad and it would also be futile.
if it were not for the risk of dying at 24 years 19 days old i wouldf be perfectly happy to tackle the chaenge of attempting to survive. the only feasable way he could survive is if i ruined him and made him a murderous fiend just to get reosurces to survive and kill anyone who as unlikely as it may be, may pass through, when in fact he is a friendly man who seeks friendship and always has in his few short years to date. now can you see what i mean in this char?
now if you were not respnding directly about this char sorry, otherwise, here you see my point, again, i think we should be able to use those credits to cancel out days on a credit per day basis and thus i would shut up about it.

I'm in a similar situation with one of my chars...the animals aren't quite as bad, but most of the locations I've been to have been empty. Still, this just mean that char doesn't use up many precious minutes and I can ignore them most of the time.
You're supposed to be able to buy more slots with credits, so that's a way around your problem right there...I seriously doubt it'll be 'one credit=one day' though, in fact I'm sure one minute will probably cost more than that.

I'm all for it.
This is a rule that was not set when I started to play.
So why that rule might be applied to me & my characters? I have been playing without thinking of that 40-days term, so why should now take care of it?
Isn't a break of my characters' plan of life? What about if they're planning to quit their lives at the age of twenty four? I just couldn't play Cantr II for about a month and a half?
Because "there's a rule"?
Oh... I'm so bored with the "new" rules, just let me play Cantr II as I was playing it since I logged in for the very first time. It was just... ¿wonderful?

ps. because the action of one, there's a thousand paying for it.

Dude/ Dudess
This is exactly the point of the rule - You character doesn't want to die, he wants to survive... survival is the natural instinct... but no, you find playing them boring and you think get rid of him so you make him suicidal thats CRB. You charracter has no idea that he might reincarnate in an exciting interesting place...
If he was legitimately suicidal IG he would have dropped his shield and let the animals have their worst, probably days ago... but that's not something someone does lightly because they can't be bothered anymore. Feel the pain of your character... if he is suicidal and takes his own life that hurts its the most despereate thing in the world. Under this rule, now you lose 1/15th of your game play for 40 days maybe you can feel a little of his pain... mourn for that time hey?
I've yet to hear a convincing argument against this rule other than "I like to CRB"
