Official Strategy&Tactics Post
Alright, I hit a bump in my 'Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings' game for DS, so I'm opening the Official Strategy&Tactics Post to have all of Cantrian society help me out of it. How this post will work is someone will post a strategical situation and the rest will puzzle it out until we get bored and decide to post a new one. For the first one, you're going to help me out.
All right, time period is Sword and Shield, resources are limited but growing. The battlefield is much like a series of islands thinly seperated by rivers, each of which is bridged at one point or another.
To the south, across a bridge is one enemy base for Nation A (the first enemy). He has a few defenses there, but nothing I can't handle. He'll probably get a war machine going if he has the chance, though. To the west is a mountain range with some resources in it, and to the south of the resources, adjacent to Nation A's first base is Nations A's seconds base (Base A-B). It is as lightly defended as Base A-A, but is much less accesible. All their defenses are mounted, so they'll be able to rapidly leap to the aid of their allies. Base A-B is likely to set up Base A-C to the south and, if I give them the time, Base A-D up north by the resource patch and the mountain. They'll also probably block the pass from the mountains into their base with a castle.
To the south of base A-A is Nation B's only base. They have me outnumbered on about a 7:10 scale, against me, and have far superior technology and training. However, they will not get involved in combat until three weeks of combat have already passed or if they are directly attacked. Until then they'll build up an army approximately twice the size of mine, which I cannot surpass due to resource constraints (this may change if I seize more resources). There are several pathces of resources which the enemy will not be able to claim unless I allow them to sorround my base.
Alright, people of Cantr. Help me out.

Go for all the resources you can guard. Never stop producing villagers until they are about 2/3 of your population (or you are going up an age or researching something at the town hall). Build forward bases, buildings are as cheap as units, and keep pumping troops into a constant battle in whichever base you're attacking at that time. Keep an eye on your resources so you know what you have to use and make troops that use that type of resource or move villagers around to get what you need.
Try to contain nation A, you should be able to do that by fighting inside of their base. And if you ever spot a villager leaving their base, have no mercy.
I’m not going to get any deeper than those guidelines.

I'd say, that you should build up a navy, and fast. Use that as your first defence, and as your seage weapons. Attak base A on the side closest to the whater, and use your ships FIRST to make a hole in there defences(If they have any) and send in the men.
For A-B, This stratagy^ here, can be used for anything, but if you are attaking far away, be sure to have a base really close so you can get reinforsments. You see, This is a Build em up tipe game. So, what you need to have as a stratagy, is your line of reainforcments. The shorter, the better. And always use seig stratagy. Never go anywere without something long-range backing you up.
By the way, does this game have boats?

It's turn based, and there is no navy. I'll go for some of those strategies as soon as I get my DS back from my three friends, each of whom wants to borrow it (all of us play it every fourth day...what a bother...)

Yea, Mine to.
Same thing. Exept it should be a bit differen't. All games are about moving resourses quikest and with the most mass. now, since it is a turned base game... and theres no navy... First off... how do you get acrost water? If you don't, then the stratagy is alot different.
If you can't get acrost whater, than you should Bring some villagers to the pass between the two islands, and build some defences, and build up your army there. Then start moving twards there base, and dwo one of two things. If they are spread out, than at sertain increments, just bring in a few soldiers with a viliger and build a tower, defend the vilager, and leave, so the tower will distroy everything(or just weaken it for when you come.) and do that at all the important places, if you don't have an army built up. If you do, just swarm in and take out theyr resoureses and factory plases.

Thankyou, Nalaris.
As a result of this thread I'm going to go back to playing Age of Empires 2... It's a great game, and I used to play the orginal Age of Empires all my life when I was like 10 or 11 or older or something.
