Ok now I am totally confused...

Hmm, but the player selection page doesn't drain minutes, does it? At least, that's what I've seen on the forums.

No it doesn't - nor does voting - Minutes are 'drained' only when viewing a character

I'm fairly sure I've lost as much as 60 minutes by leaving it on the character selection page by accident, I tested yesterday and I definately lost 10 mins on the character selection page...
(Thats the one with the list of your characters , yeah?)

You're supposed to hit the log out button from that page if you've let it set for a while or the X button. You won't lose minutes that way.
Erm no offense, I know that but that's not what we were discussing...

Probably needs a qualification to what has been said

If you have legitimately loaded the player page (the one with the list of all your living characters) either by just logging in or clicking on return to player page from another one, then no minutes are used.

The same is true for all pages accessable from the Player page, except for individual character pages (e.g. voting, departments, statistics, faq etc)

If, however, you have navigated back to the player page using some other method (such as your browser back button) then minutes may still be used if you where previously on a character page.

Sorry - My Mistake

If you stay on the Player Page minutes are deducted whilst you are on there if you subsequently access a character . If you stay on the Player Page (or on any of the other pages accessible from there except for characters) and then logout no minutes will be deducted.

So it is possible to vote without losing time as long as you don't access a character during that session

So what you're saying is that if you've been on the "player page", you'll lose minutes if you then select a char, unless you log out and then back in again??
So if you vote then select a char, you'll lose that time spent voting. So vote then log off, rather than voting when you first start a session.

Those would work but so would logging in , accessing a character and then voting in the same session

Basically minutes are deducted whenever you access a character - so you are not charged for anything until a character is accessed . If you log in and check characters , then do all the other things such as voting you will only have the time from login to the last character activity deducted .

Not that I'm bothered but for all the times I've voted I've never received so much as a single credit, what am I doing wrong?

It depends which site you use. I do them all so I'm not sure which site gives the credits

The key is that the minutes deduct since the last time you view a page or logged in whenever you view any character information. So if you sit at the player page, you can refresh it all you want and not use any minutes, but if you then click a character page, minutes will be deducted since when you logged in or last accessed character information.

If you have low minutes and need to watch for an event, keep an eye on the player page, when the character your watching has an event (turns white) then LOGOUT, log back in and check that character. This way minutes will only be deducted since you logged in, only a minute or less...

Ultimate Game Directory

By the way, if you don't know, you can vote on this site every hour.

I tried that game that's in first place... not so bad, but not voting gives you a disadvatage.. They really have a reason to vote. I messed it up though because I tried to do more than one thing before it finished loading.. it worked on Cantr...

You get credits when you vote for Cantr on any number of websites (Scroll down past your character listing and you'll see the voting links)

As for what they do, nothing has been implimented to my knowledge, but they are rumored to allow you many things such as buying extra minutes, or possibly another character slot....but not yet.
